本書を見つつ、「お気に入りの文庫本をハードカバーに」してみました。古書店で購入したかなり傷んでいる本でしたが、見違えるばかりになりました。
当方、かなりのぶきっちょなので、本書にあるような洒落た感じにはなりませんが（いや、かなりデコボコにはなりましたが）、まがりなりにも「世界でひとつの本」にはなったかと思います。２冊目を装丁するときには、もうすこし慣れて、もうすこし要領よく、もうすこし洒落た装丁を造れるようになりたいものだと思います。

「スピン」「花切れ」「寒冷紗」と耳慣れない材料が出てきますが、手芸店の「製本」関係の売り場で、「製本工房リーブル」（本書の奥付には電話番号が載っています）というメーカーの商品でひととおり手に入れることができます。材料費は全部で1000円程度、一冊装丁するのにかかる時間は４０分くらいでした。

「ちり」「のど」「紙の目」などの製本に関する専門用語は「本作りを始める前に」というページにまとめて説明されており、熟読してから始めなければ手が止まってしまうのが難ですが、一冊くらいは無駄にする覚悟であきらめずにトライしてみれば、まがりなりにも形にはなります。そのあたり、もうちょっと易しくできなかったものか、とは思いますが。

本書の後半は、素人には手が出せない工芸品ですが、眺めて楽しむだけでも価値がある一冊です。

思っていたものとちょっと違いました。もっと技術的なことに重点を当てていると良いのにと思います。
作品例が私には洗練度にかけると感じられます。筆者の好みが私の趣味に合わないだけなのでこれは仕方がありません。
作り方にもっとページを割いて、もっと深みのある説明がほしいです。

まずは読むだけで「あたしだったら・・・」と想像が膨らんで楽しめます。まだ実際製作してはいないので、説明の親切さは判断しかねますが個人的に「箔押し」の方法を詳細に説明してほしかったです。
