This is a most intriguing work. The physical part is, simply put, superb. Great paper, font, photos, look and feel, all done in Japan. The bi-lingual texts are something rather particular--you get a Haiku and the short version of a Noh story, the two of them being somewhat related. The small batches of photos following the texts appear to illustrate each story with actual show scenes. The images provided by Amazon should give you an idea about the sequence. The introduction is rather simple, if not simplistic--the author draws some comparisons to ancient Greek theater and creates a short context round this art form.
In other words, 'Noh: Classical Japanese Performing Art' is an attractive draw into the world of Noh. It makes for an exquisite invite into the subject, not much else. Considering the time of this review, it should also make for a wonderful gift. If you've been already exposed to the subject, you could appreciate a lower price or larger format.
