リスニングが苦手な生徒に英文を読ませると、ローマ字読みをしたり、単語ごとに切って読んだりすることが多い。
つまり、自分が思っている音と実際に聞こえてくる音が違うということが起こっている。

この本は、この問題を徹底的にトレーニングしようというものだ。
たとえば、"on it"は「オン・イット」ではなく、「オニ」と聞こえるというように、発音記号ではなくカタカナ読みで書かれているところもとても読みやすい。
また、文例も非常に多く、付属のCDを聞きながら眺めているだけでかなりのトレーニングになる。

ただ、唯一の難点は、例文に訳がついているのみで文法的な説明が一切ないということである。
そのために、ある程度文法の基礎力がある人でないとやや使いにくいかもしれない。

アメリカ英語の大きな特徴であるリダクションやリンキングを
豊富な文例集でマスターできる良書。

単語力はそこそこなのに、なぜかハリウッド映画やドラマが
聞き取れない方がこの本にある５０のルールを知ると
飛躍的にリスニング力がアップするかと思います。

そして、発音がカタカナ表記で表されているのも特徴。昔、小話で
芋を盗もうとしていた外国人に地主が「掘った芋とるな！」と
怒ったら”What time is it now?”と聞き返された話があったように、
微妙に発音記号を独学で勉強してしまって、変な癖の英語音を
認識してしまうよりも、よっぽどネイティブがそう聞こえる
カタカナ表記に置き換えたほうが、聞き取りやすい事って
あるんじゃないでしょうか？

また、ＣＤのスピードはＴＯＥＩＣのリスニングＰＡＲＴ３・
会話問題と同じくらいなので対策にも良いかと思います。

仕事の関係でイタリア語を語学留学、etcで何とか習得使えるようになりました。
英語はEU圏内では通じるし理解できますが、ネイティブとなると聴き取れない！
特に知ってる単語がだめでかなりへこみました。この本のチャプターはかなり良い。
日本語でもそうだけれどアナウンサーのような発音で日常会話する人っていないし,それなら聴き取り易いわけで(EU圏のように)聴き取りにくい発音のCDは意図するところかと…思います。

後はひたすら聞き続ければいい線いきそうです。まだやっていないけど〜
聴き取れないのは全部発音していないしリエゾンしちゃっているからという理由を
意外と理解していない人が多く、英語不安になっているかも、ということで星5つにしました。
