世界が結晶化する重いストーリです。生の側から見て「死」である結晶化と、死(?)から見た「生」である結晶化が、人間模様を絡ませて対峙されられながら話が展開していきます。

世界の崩壊ばかりを描く作家Ｊ・Ｇ・バラードの代表的長編。
単調な物語だし、結晶化の様子がいまいち分かりづらく読みづらい。
しかし、結晶化の理由は独創性の高いアイデアであり、アイデア好きなら読んでも損はしないだろう。

そもそも、６０年代のＳＦの先駆者だったバラードは、その作風や創作意図が過剰に熱をこめて語られすぎていて、
本来の姿が伝わっていない気がする。
一つの作品ごとにちゃんとアイデアを導入する独創性の高いＳＦ作家、
それが本来のＪ・Ｇ・バラードである。

バラードの長編の代表作「結晶世界」であるが、短篇集「時の声」のがおすすめである。
基本的にバラードは短編作家だと思うが、長編も読みたいならこれを読むべきである。

主人公は美しい結晶世界に魅入られてしまいます
この小説を読んだ俳優の岸田森は「怪獣プリズ魔」を世に送ります
帰ってきたウルトラマンのＤＶＤで見ることができます
この作品の映画化を希望します

翻訳の文体が古い、活字が読みにくい、でも内容はいいです
ソラリスよりこれを映画化した方が面白かったのに
