本書に収録されたエッセイのほとんどが、「R25」（若者向けのフリーペーパー）か「日本経済新聞」夕刊のために書かれたものだ。そのせいだろうか、自分でお金を稼いで生活していくことの楽しさやしんどさについて書かれているものが多い。ただ、自由業を謳歌している作家のエッセイにありがちな、世の中をすねたようなところは微塵もなく、今どき珍しいほどの（いくぶん皮肉もあるが）若者に薦められる本になった。正直言って、著者と同世代の者としては、甘い、キザ、あざとい、と思わない部分もないことはなかった。が、やはり石田衣良のエッセイの旨さ、ただものではない。これは認めざるを得ない。

業は小説書きですが、最近はテレビのコメンテーターとしても活躍中の石田衣良氏。
テレビではさわやかな語り口で物事の本質をズバッと斬る姿が印象的ですが、
本書でもその手腕はいかんなく発揮されています。

<り返される毎日を一生懸命生きている人への応援や、現代社会のあり方への問題提起、
はてはエッセイのネタに詰まったときの小話までが書かれていて、飽きることがありません。
読むたびに励まされたり、胸を打たれたり、クスリと笑わされたりして、
ページを繰るのがひたすら楽しかったです。

ちなみに、個人的に強く印象に残った一編は「夢を捨てる勇気」です。
自分の身に当てはめると、色々身につまされる思いでした。

「きみはきみらしく、ゆっくりとすすむ。
　ただし、ひとりぼっちだと嘆きながらではなく。自分の速度で。」（本書より抜粋）

石田衣良の初エッセイ。フリペR25と日経夕刊のコラムをまとめたもの。R25は地方では手に入らないのでさみしいけれどこうやって本になってくれると嬉しいですね。大変な時代だけどクヨクヨせずに楽しく生きましょうと、悩める若者の背中を押してくれます＊
