　ＯＶＡ「究極超人あーる」のサウンドトラック＆おまけ盤のリマスター。山本正之「飯田線のバラード」、笠原弘子「くちびるにメモリー」、１２分超の大作「はっぴい・ぱらだいすの逆襲」など名曲揃い。またサウンドトラックも山本正之作の「歌心のあるサントラ」と田中公平作の「センスのいいサントラ」が混じり合っていい雰囲気を出している（tr.36「自動的消滅作戦！」は笑い転げること必至！）。なかなか出来はよい。

　しかし、この作品は音楽スタッフこそ同じであれ、他はＯＶＡに沿っているので、あーる本来の世界観というか作品の持つ「空気感」とはちょっと離れてしまったことは否めない。そもそも、あーるをＯＶＡにしようとした背景には、「機動警察パトレイバー」の大ヒットと当時の好景気があった。つまり、「パトレイバーバブル」「ゆうきまさみバブル」「バブル経済」の３バブルに乗っかって作られた作品であり、勢いで作ってしまった感がある（そして、皮肉なことにＯＶＡの発売された９１年からバブル経済は下降し、リリース半年後の９２年春には完全に破綻していた）。そういう理由で、一番の大作ながら、実は「一番あーるらしくないあーるのアルバム」になっている。むしろ、ＯＶＡを頭から除いて、一つの音楽アルバムにドラマがついている、と考えた方がすっきりするかもしれない。

　とにかく、「ＣＤ自体」の出来はいいのだから、先入観なく聞くことをおすすめする。ドラマもＯＶＡ寄りで、ちょっと「あーるの世界」から離れているのだが、塩沢兼人さん、鈴置洋孝さん、長谷有洋さん、そして春風亭柳昇師匠と物故された方々の声が聞けるのはうれしいことだ。ＣＤとは別の、「あーるのもう一つの到達点（アニメ化）の記録」として手にしておきたいアルバムであろう。贅沢を言うと、ピクチャーレーベルが再現されなかったのは、やっぱり惜しいなぁ・・・。
