同盟を結んでいたﾄﾞｲﾂやｲﾀﾘｱが独裁国家であるためか、東条英機も同様に語られることが多い。
しかし決してそのようなことはなく、常に天皇陛下、国民を念頭に考えていたのだ。

そして敗戦国のＡ級戦犯として潔く刑に服した。

かような偉人はもう日本には出てこないのだろうか？

私利私欲に溺れる臣のような姿はもう見たくないのだが。

東条英機への誤解が解け、また中国語や韓国語にも翻訳して出版すべき本だと思う。

東条英機のお孫さんが書かれた本です。
「Ａ級戦犯」の家族と言うだけで知り合いから疎遠にされたり、
匿名の人間から中傷の手紙が届いたり、などの苦労話が載っています。
そして東条英機は家庭では良き夫、良き父、良き祖父であったことが語られています。
本書は２０００年に発売されました。
東条英機の人となりを語るにはそれだけの冷却期間をおく必要があったのです。
本書の５年後（２００５年）に、
ＧＨＱが発禁第一号に指定し「封印」した東条英機の宣誓供述書が公開されました。
そこには１人の日本人が、日本男児東条英機が率直に語った大東亜戦争の真実がありました。
ご家族はその供述書を読みどう感じたでしょう。
東条英機という１人の男の生き様、死に様を想うといち日本人として涙が滲みます。
日本国の首相としての東条英機に興味のある方には、
「大東亜戦争の真実−東条英機宣誓供述書」をお勧めします。

　東条の長男、東条英隆氏の娘が書いた作品。

　東条英機やその妻などが肉親などに書いた手紙が数多く紹介され、それらをもとに、開戦時の首相でA級戦犯として絞首刑をうけた、東条英機という一個人の人間性を紹介していくような作品。

　確かに質素倹約を旨として、昭和天皇からもその律儀な人間性を評価された部分は伺い知れるし、だからといって本書には、歴史的に身内しかしらない重要な事実等は含まれていない。

　私は個人的に、一人あの戦争の責任を一身に受けている東条にも、東条の家族というだけで冷たい世間の仕打ちをうけた著者をはじめとする親族の方にも、同情の念を禁じえないし、東京裁判が不当なものであったとの認識も持っている。

　しかしながら、中国戦線を拡大した関東軍の参謀として。また日米関係を悪化させた近衛内閣の陸軍大臣として、太平洋戦争開戦時の内閣総理大臣として。その席にあったものが、評価されるべきは個人的な性格ではなくて政治的な部分や国や国民生活に何をもたらしたかの結果だけであることも、また悲しいかな事実であるし、もしろそうあらなければならないものだろう。

　それに彼ら家族の者も、終戦間際から戦後の長い機関、東条の家族という理由で受けた仕打ちだけでなく、関東軍の憲兵司令官や参謀長時代、また陸軍次官や大臣、そして総理。一級の高級将校であったものを身内に持った栄誉も少なからずあった筈である。

　そういった意味で身内しか知らない、歴史的な事実なりエピソードなりが含まれていると思って買った私には、いささか不満足な内容でした。
