1.0 out of 5 stars いわゆる恐竜本でないので評価が困難, 2009/4/22
表題通りというか、日本の恐竜業界と一部のおたく文化について書いた本。この著者は、過去の本でもマスコミなどへの舌鋒鋭い批判を展開していたが、この本では、そのへんがメインになってくるので、読んでると辛くなる。万人向けではない、恐竜好きの中のさらに一部層を相手にした本。自身もこういうアプローチの本を出している訳だし、ほかの便乗型恐竜本やイベント、番組だけを強硬に叩くのはいかがなものか。
最近の著作で、学名への怪獣名の反映などに言及していたが、そういう方向への志向を強めているのか？ 文化とは、多様なものが共存してこそでしょう。その割に、筆者が提示する視点・姿勢は寛容さに欠け、何かもの足りない気がする。

　なぜ日本人は恐竜好きか？この本を読んで、その答えのひとつにゴジラがあると納得した。私も、子どもの頃見た、ゴジラから、ウルトラマンへ、そして、小学校の頃の怪獣博士へと、さらに、大人になってから、子どもの影響で、恐竜への回帰と、まさに自分のたどってきた道を自覚させられた。
　また、著者は、恐竜展にリピーターが少ないこと、恐竜ブームが常に一過性のものであることを指摘している。やはり、まだまだ、恐竜の表面だけ、我々は、なぞっているにすぎないのか！なかなか手厳しい。さらには、恐竜についての原典の論文に当たってこそ、そこに、恐竜オタクの王道があると主張する。なかなか厳しい道であるが、さらなる恐竜の世界の深みへと思いを、かきたててくれるずばらしい一冊であると思う。
