3.0 out of 5 stars いつの時代でも、交錯する人間模様, 2007/4/28
この作品は、いわゆる「金田一物」より１０年ほど進んだ時代の作品です。戦後のごたごたから復興が盛んになってきた時期の、
更に「東京」の新興巨大団地という都会での話。そして、それを象徴するかの様な背景・手口。
ひょんな事から事件に関わってしまった金田一耕介。しかし、年代・所変われど、その事件に真摯に
取り組む姿は変わらず、しかも、自分でもちょっと演出したり。それまでの、おどろおどろした雰囲気はないものの、
いつの時代も人間は周りの目は気になり、疑心難儀になり、男女の複雑な情事もあるんだと思わせ、
知らず知らずのうちに交錯しているものなんだなぁと感じました。
ただ、今までの印象から抜け出せないせいか、やはり金田一耕介はおどろおどろした田舎の事件の中に居る方がしっくりすると感じました。

　ストーリーは、真ん中あたりがやや凡長で退屈するが、複数の謎解き要素を上手に交錯させていて、よく仕上がっている。
　ただ、金田一シリーズはやはり「地方の旧家の事件」にこそピッタリであると思う。この話の舞台となる近代的な団地には今ひとつ似合わない気がした。

　金田一耕助シリーズの映像(映画、ＴＶドラマ)は好んで観ますが、文庫を読むのは避けてきました。理由は、文庫本の表紙がおどろおどろしいこと、本編に入る前の前置き(スリーリーテラー的導入部)への違和感、地名などが「岡＿＿村」やＳ市のように表記されてることの煩わしさ、などからです。

　しかし最近、無性に推理小説を読みたくなり何を読もうかと物色した際、本作品は、上記のとっつき難さが無くこれはいいな、と思いました。横溝正史生誕百年記念で文庫の表紙がリニューアルしたのも好感です。

　さて内容ですが、昭和35年10月11日、時あたかも日本シリーズの開幕から11月初旬の総選挙という時期に新興住宅団地で起きた事件の物語です。秋の夜長に読むにピッタリ。「Ladies and Gentlemen」で始まる謎の手紙。殺人事件。誤解と便乗。偶然の行動が招く殺人への動機。それらが絡み合い複雑な事件を紡ぎ上げています。残り数ページで分かる事件の全容。その時に得るカタルシスの大きさといったら！
　ぜひ堪能して下さい。こんなに複雑な作品を書き上げた作者に改めて脱帽しました。
