学生時代に卒業研究を行っている先輩が、研究のまとめの新しい手法として使っていて、教えてもらったのが最初の出会いで、この本を手にした。以来、新入社員研修や仕事上での問題要因分析など、多くの場面で用いてきた。問題解決技法の典型的なものとして、情報処理技術者のテキストなどにも概略が載っている。

今また仕事の関係で使うことになり、もう一度原理原則に戻ってみようと思い、KJ法がコンパクトにまとめられた、この本を手にとってみた。KJ法が誤った形で使われないために、著者がていねいに説明されていることを、再認識した。

　I　野外科学-現場の科学 　II　野外科学の方法と条件 　III　発想をうながすKJ法 　IV　創造体験と自己変革

　V　KJ法の応用とその効果 　VI　むすび

の章構成になっている。後半部やむすびで示されている、著者の創造性に対する見解は、まったく古さを感じさせない。研究者として油ののった時期の意見は、力強さを感じさせ、創造へ立ち向かっていく者を勇気付けてくれる。

逆説的に言えば、こと創造性の分野に関しては、この国は余り進歩していないとも言えるのだろうか。

　出版当時から誤解を受け続けているように、これを「単なるグルーピング」の本と解釈するのはあまりにもありがちな誤りだ。
　フィールドワークで収集したデータの解析法として編み出されたのであり、もちろん現在でもそういった分野で有用性があるのはその通りなのであるが、本書の力点は何よりも「共通性がある」と感じられるものをグルーピングするときに、理屈を使わず直感を使う、という点である。つまり、分析をする本人が気付いていない（意識下では気付いている）何かを積極的に活用し、あとからその理屈を発見してゆく、という手法なのである。
　最近、社会科学の分野では、「質的研究」が注目されている。そのデータの分析の方法として、GT法が主に用いられることが多いようである。しかし、KJ法はこのGT法に組み合わせて使うことができ、また単独での使用にも耐える。この「意識下を顕在化させずに活用し、あとから理由を求める」という手法は、人間の創造性にとって結構エッセンシャルな部分なのではないか、と感ずる。
　わたくしが本書にはじめて触れたのは高校生の頃であるが、それ以来本書の提言にはずっと影響を受け続けている。読み継がれるべき、そして活用され続けるべき名著である。

４０年前に出版されて、現在まで８０版を重ねている名著である。
KJ法という名前だけは聞いたことがあり、大枠の仕組みを聞いてたのだが、実際にどのようにやるのか知らなかった。
しかも、創造性というよりは、ビジネス、コンサル系の研修などでよく聞く名前であって、非常に堅い感じの、ビジネスにおける問題解決法というか、単にTOOLのひとつだと思っていた。
この本を読んで、その自分の認識がまったくの間違いであったことがよくわかった。それが収穫の一番目。

この本の前半は、KJ法のやり方を解説してあり、なかなか手ごわい。
後半とあとがきは、KJ法というひとつの方法を通じ筆者が考える創造性や、国民性のあり方などに言及し、とても面白く読める。その人間が人間らしく生きるというところにまで、この思考法を展開している深さには脱帽する。その展開方法に穴がないかというとそんな事なさそうなんだが、展開できてしまっているというその事自体がすでに異常（いい意味で）と感じた。その異常さが、この本に独特の熱を生んでおり、そしてその熱は決して嫌な熱ではないのだ。

今回は時間的都合により、細切れで読んでしまった。それには前半部分のKJ法の使い方部分がなかなか進みにくいというのも関係している。
今度読むときは、しっかり時間をとり一気に通読したほうが良さそうだと思っている。
そして、それだけの価値がある本だと思う。
