   市川崑監督、石坂浩二主演の横溝正史原作シリーズ第3弾。瀬戸内海に浮かぶ獄門島で起こる連続殺人事件に挑む名探偵・金田一耕助の活躍を描いていく。真夏の孤島の暑さを思わさずにいられない映像美と、それを凌駕（りょうが）するほどゾクゾクさせられる猟奇的事件との対比がいい。俳句をもとにしたトリックの見せ方も秀逸。

   また、今回はあえて原作と異なる犯人を設定し、市川監督版シリーズ独自の、なぜ犯人が犯行に及んだのか、という哀しい人生模様の色を出すことにも成功している。またシリーズ3作目ともなると、脇を固める常連キャストの演技も、それぞれ一段と味わい深くなっており、それがまた魅力を深めるポイントになっている。（的田也寸志）

　個人的に忘れられない作品。

　原作でも感じられる｢日本の夏｣の懐かしさを映像、音楽、キャスト全てで満たした傑作だと思います。当時29歳の大原麗子の早苗さんも、その後の彼女とは異なる初々しさが感じられます。夏になると、無性に見たくなる映画です。

5.0 out of 5 stars 金田一耕介のシリーズはやはり市川昆の映像が一番！, 2004/5/25
金田一耕介のシリーズはこれまでにも多くの監督により撮られました。どの映画も素晴らしいと思いますが、横溝正史の作品を実に巧く表現した監督は市川昆を除いていないと考えます。原作の時代背景と映像の構成、そして配役。市川昆監督独特の、特にこのシリーズでのカメラワークが小説に表現する世界と雰囲気を映像化しています。金田一耕介の飄々とした風貌も石坂浩二でしか表現出来ないと思いますが、いかがでしょうか？石坂浩二の表情と目を見てください。金田一耕介が何かを閃いたときのカメラワークを見てください。市川昆監督は最高です。また、映像と演出、その時代を私は知りませんが、あの時代に暮らしていると錯覚してしまうような、日本の耽美な世界はこれだ！と思える映像作品ですね。

映画が面白いのは今更言うまでもありません。日本映画史に残る名作です。特に女優陣!大原麗子と司葉子の美しさは必見。しかしながら美しいだけなら現在活躍している女優さんも負けてはいないのですが、やはり昭和時代の女優さんは演技が素晴らしいです。日本映画が一番張り摘めていた時代を生きた俳優さん達は映画の中でお互いに刺激しながら成長していたんでしょう。
