独演会をやめた人間国宝米朝師匠の完全保存版DVDの第1集です。
ご高齢ですので、独演会をやめられたのはファンとしてはさびしいですが、やむを得ないでしょう。東芝EMIによる今回の全集DVD化は米朝師匠のこの決断を受けたものであると推察されます。この意味で、全集DVDはファンにとっては完全保存版ですね。

今回のDVDには特典として演目ごとに米朝師匠による解説がついていますが、これは従来のVHS、LDに添付されていた紙媒体の解説をデジタル化したもののようです。「落語は口承芸能ですから解説は不要」という考え方もあるでしょうが、昔からスクラップ・アンド・ビルドの土地柄であった大阪を中心とする上方古典落語に関する限り、当時の風俗や地名に関する最低限の解説は必須といえるでしょう。「帯久」は人から慕われる和泉屋、恩知らずの帯久、人情味あるお裁きをする奉行の3者のやり取りが中心ですが、和泉屋から借金していた頃と出世成功してからの帯久を演じ分ける米朝師匠の技が聴き所でしょうか。サゲは地口落ちでやや軽いのが難点です。
