安土城の設計・建築に携わった岡部親子と織田信長との、桶狭間から本能寺にいたるまでの縁の物語。
木材の調達が「政治」になり、石の運搬に「謀略」が隠れている――そんな、通常職人にとって見れば「事務」であるはずのことが信長を介することによって命がけの大事になるという穏便ならざる状況の中で、それでも百難を踏み越えて「安土城」という前代未聞、空前絶後の巨城建築に挑もうという職人たちの覚悟と緊張。
巻末解説でも触れられていますが、最早出尽くした感のある「信長ストーリー」に、新たな切り口で挑戦した、まさに意欲作です。

今さらですが、読みました。
安土城の築城に携わった親子の番匠（大工）の物語。
めちゃくちゃ面白かったです。

棟梁と呼ばれた人達が当時、どのようにして生きていたかがありありと伝わってきました。
一つ一つの築城に関わるシーンがものすごくリアルに描かれていて、非常に興奮しました。
この詳細な築城プロセスの描写なくして、安土城の魅力は絶対に伝わらない、と言ってもいいほど。

また、自分も城下町に住んでいますが、築城というものが当時の政治、社会、人々の生活といかに密接につながっていたかをあらためて実感しました。

ですが、やはり主役は棟梁であり、親子で一世一代の築城に関わるその人間ドラマとして、素直に面白かったです。

築城を大工棟梁の目からみた逸品。築城に纏わる陰の記述は想像に及ばぬところがありこれほど詳細に描いた小説は他に無いと信じる。歴史小説１３４作品目の感想。
