　著者は「旧制「高校理科コース」に進学。いわゆる専門外。私は高校時代（もちろん新制）、漢文を習った。「韻をふむ」「対句」「絶句」・・・説明を聞いた。理解できなかった。私の理解力不足のせいにしてきた。でもこの本に出会ってから、考えが変わった。実は「そのときの高校の先生はこの意味を本当に理解していなかったのだ」ということが解った。私は、大学に進学して中国語を徹底的に学んだ。この本は最近出版されたが、中国語を学んだものにとっても、これは名著である。著者は専門外から中国文学の専門教授になられたため、如何にしたら門外漢に解り易く説くかをよく心得ている。また、理論的という、おそらく「詩」とは縁がない手法を用いて読者を引き込む。漢詩２５編を解き明かして、もう一度分析しなおしている。岩波シリーズ「ジュニア新書」は、実は知ったかぶりを叩きのめすための「大人の新書」なのである。

　『詩経』から唐代の杜甫李白を経て日本の河上肇まで、各時代の代表的な漢詩を取りあげて、噛んで含めるように説明が加えられている。しかも、主語が（一般的には人間になる読みが施される）杜甫の「春望」第３・４句の主語は実は花鳥であるという洞見にも満ちている。文章もこの著者独特の平易で読みやすい文体。特に「漢詩についてのＱ＆Ａ」は漢詩の基本知識をまとめた形で解説されていて、本当にわかりやすい。この部分だけでも読む価値は十分にある。

　書き下し文が歴史的仮名遣いではないので、現在の高校の漢詩授業とは違ってしまうのが残念だが、漢詩に興味がある人にはぴったりの好著である。ここに述べられている漢詩のリズムと意味の切れ目をふまえれば、自分で漢詩の意味をだいたいつかめるようになるのだから。同じ著者の『漢語の知識』が品切れ状態（一時的に復刊していたけれども）だが、ぜひとも復刊させてほしいと思う。若い人々が真の教養に出会える名著なのだから。

漢詩は難しい、読み方が判りませんでしたが、
漢詩の書き方、定めさえ捉えれば、私にも読める、
作れる・・・と思える本と役立ちますよ♪
