井上 靖
1907年、北海道旭川に生まれる。京都大学哲学科卒業。大阪毎日新聞社学芸部に勤務の傍ら、「闘牛」「猟銃」を発表。50年の「闘牛」で第22回芥川賞を受賞。51年に同社を退社後、精力的な執筆活動を開始、多彩で詩情豊かな名作を次々と生み出す。76年文化勲章を受章。代表作に『天平の甍』(芸術選奨文部大臣賞)『孔子』(野間文芸賞)など多数。91年に逝去(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

女性が「政治の道具」でしか遇されておらず、一族ぐるみで、明日をも知れぬ、不安定で騒がしい世にあって、彼女は「どんな時でも生き抜き、人を愛して、時代の流れに抗って」精一杯「自分らしく」生涯をまっとうした女性ではないだろうか？と思った。

７歳から始まった不遇な環境の中でも己を見失わず、どこか覚めた目で局面を見据え、選択肢の限られた中でも、激情にかられながらも誇りを失わずに凛としていた人柄が、物語から伺えます。
（だから、「その時」大阪城にいるべきだったのは、妹達（おはつ・小督）ではなく、「茶々」でなければならなかったのか、と妙に納得した感じも持てました。）

歴史上で言われる、「もしも」時代の流れが彼女の頭上にあったら、町人文化はどうなっていただろうか？現代は、どんな世の中になっていただろうか？と、ふと考えた。

　昨年の年末から公開している「茶々〜天蓋の貴妃」を見てから読んでみました。

　今まで淀君の時代や、大坂の陣が描かれている小説だと、司馬遼太郎の「新史太閤記」、「城塞」を読みました。その中だと淀君は無能者で、豊臣家を滅亡に追い込んだ張本人のような印象を受けていたので、本作品原作の映画「茶々〜天蓋の貴妃」だとかなり違う印象を受けたので、原作はどんなものだろうかと思っていましたが、映画はかなり脚色されている印象が強かったです。映画は最後の最後まで戦った印象でしたが、原作は最後の最後までとまでは行かなくても生き残る道を最後の方まで摸索していたからです。

　映画を見た人には読んで欲しいです。でも見様によってはかなり違うので映画のイメージを強く持っている人は面白くないかもしれません。先に挙げた司馬作品ではあまり読むことがない淀君の生涯を知りたい人にはお勧めです。
