This Disney Classic from the 1950's was entertaining but resulted in a plot which deviated way too far from the Jules Verne classic text. The timing of events is completely wrong and the characters who participated in those events are switched or missing. In the movie the Ned Land character, portrayed by the swashbuckling Kirk Douglas, seems to be the central figure whereas in the book, Dr. Arronax is narrating the story as the central figure. The movie did serve the purpose of providing background for my daughter as one of her favorite attractions at Disney Sea in Tokyo is the Nautilus ride. I am now reading her the book to fix her perception of the story.
