第１巻同様、刑務所の中で美味い物自慢話の数々が繰り広げられるが、一つとして、高級な料理は無い。
すべて、我々庶民が食べ親しんだものばかりだが、そのシチュエーションと語りが独特だ。
どれも食べ物の美味さを、最大限に引き立てる語りっぷりだ。

リストラされて一家離散し、やっと工事現場の職を得たが、極寒の季節に所持金は硬貨数枚。
特価品の袋入りインスタントラーメンを、下宿で作って、鍋から直接食う。
空気の冷たさの中で、熱いラーメンが身体を芯から温める。

こんなシーンは、とうていヨダレ無しでは読めない。
そして、給料が出て、金に余裕が出来たら、インスタントラーメンは玉子入りだ。
ささやかな贅沢だが、これがまた美味そうだ。

逆説的な話もある。
わざと不味い料理を紹介して、本来の料理を引き立てたりもする。

最も印象に残るシーンは、ある受刑者が服役作業中に、心臓発作に倒れる。
倒れた時に発した、最期の言葉は、ある食べ物の名前だった。
この時の心境は、何となく分かる様な気がする。

第１巻を読んだ時も、ヨダレがあふれたが、今巻もヨダレの洪水だ。
嗚呼！無性に腹が減ってきた！！

戦時下の食糧難を伝える学校の授業よりも、発展途上国の飢餓の報道よりも、「飯が喰える」という当たり前なようで、実は大変有り難い現実を実感出来るのではないでしょうか?
『食』を再考する上でも是非読んでいただきたい一冊です。…おっと、そんな肩肘はるようなもんじゃないですよ。

「深夜食堂」は「どこにも行かないグルメ漫画」。こちらは「どこにも行けない」「何も
作れない」「自由に食えない」という三重苦グルメ漫画。それぞれの罪状はあまり明らかに
されないので、犯罪物の重さはないが、「行けない」「作れない」「食えない」が犯罪の罰
としての大きさを思わせる

「美味いもの」の内容はというと、これは東海林大先生の「丸かじり」シリーズ系の
メシがずらり。卵かけご飯、立ち食いそば、いなり寿司、インスタントラーメンに
カップの掻き揚げそば（年越しそばの代わり）。。。読んだ途端にコンビニやらに
いそいそと入って漫画の余韻のあるうちに食うと、んんっ美味い！

美味そう度ならば卵かけご飯、コンビニへ走れ度ならばカップそば、しかして
今日は、ふと「おばあちゃんが作った太巻きといなり寿司」を思い出して
近所の甘味屋で、甘辛のいなりと卵焼き太巻きを。。。手でつかんで食うと
指まで美味い！（いなり寿司で一番美味しいのは食ったあとの指だと思う）

奇跡のグルメ漫画「孤独のグルメ」以来、市井の「俺ら」が食う市井の美味いものを、
その裏の物語を見事に描く漫画が増えている。フォアグラがどんだけ美味くても、
キャビアが、トリュフがどんだけ素晴らしくても、とらふぐが、本マグロが、アワビが
どれだけ心身を豊かにしてくれても。。。決して「染みる」ことはない！
そう、これはハラワタに染み入る漫画なんです！

あ、夜中に読むとたぶん太ります。コンビニの近くに住んでいる方はご注意を。。。
