昔々ハードロックにのめりこんでいた時、リードギターが２人になったらさぞ凄いサウンドになるだろうという話になって、実際にウィッシュボーン・アッシュなどという名バンドが実際に現れた（ただヘビメタサウンドではなかったですが）。そんな話をしているなかでトリプル・リードギターでしかもヘビィであるという噂とともにアメリカからやってきたのがこの「ブルー・オイスター・カルト」というバンド。なんかナチスっぽいややこしさもあって雰囲気ムンムンで飛びつきました。ただ思いいれ先行で聞いていたのですが、ちょっとしっくり来ない時期が続き、そうこうしているうちに「タロットの呪い」というアルバムから「死神」というシングルが大ヒットして一躍有名になってしまいました。「死神」はどちらかと言うとまあ良くあるヘビメタバンドのアダ花に相当するヒットですが、よく出来た佳曲です。
で。このライブですが、選曲が変わってまして、知る人ぞ知る「ＭＣ５」という伝説のバンドの「kick out the jams」とアニマルズでヒットした「朝日のない街」がカバーされています。それに「死神」と「ゴジラ」、さらにメタリカがカバーしていた「astronomy」。ということでＢＯＣの実像が伝わるライブかどうかははなはだ疑問ですが、その道（どの道やねん？）が好きな人には充分満足してもらえる作品です。そしてジャケットに「ＴＨＥ　ＲＥＡＰＥＲ」の絵がかかれてます。直訳で「刈り取り人」なかなか雰囲気あります。

もしBOCを初めて聴くというなら、このアルバムは勧めない。迷わず、ETI LiveやLong Day Nightを聴いて欲しい。このアルバムはBOCのスタジオ盤を何枚か経由してBOCが好きになった人向き。何故なら、曲数が少なく代表曲を欠きまくっているので入門編としては不向きだし、ミックスが軽くて重たさに欠ける。これを聴いてBOCってこんなバンドなんだ、と思われてしまうと、長年のファンとしては困ってしまいます。でもBOCファンにとっては、中期の脂が乗った頃のライブが聴けるという意味で貴重な一枚。ジャケットの美しさだけでもお金を出す価値がある、というのはファンの贔屓目か？

アナログ１枚モノを所有していましたが、思わず買ってしまいました。このライブ・アルバムは当時、『死神』の大ヒットや、『タロットの呪い』、『スペクターズ』という先に発表されたアルバムの好評があって、先の２枚組ライブ『On Your Feet or on Your Knees』と曲のダブリがないように選曲されたものですから、初期の代表曲がないのはいたしかたないと思います。世の中には、BOCといえば『死神』というファンもいらっしゃるくらいですから。それを補うのが貴重なボーナス・トラックの３曲です。そしてDVD、長年愛聴していたLPのライブ・パフォーマンスを観ることができるのは、とても感慨深いものがあり、思わずナミダしてしまいました。
