僕はアメカジファッションが長い間好きで、アメリカ文化、そしてそれを育んだルート66への茫漠とした興味から本書を手に取った。

内容は「学問的」なものでは無いが―まぁその様な要素を求める人が本書を手に取ろうとするかは甚だ疑問ではあるけれど―、実際に「自分で」現地を旅した人間にしか分かりえぬ、何とも立体的・濃密な、善悪ひっくるめた意味での「21世紀の古き善きアメリカ」が其処にはある。

ドゥービーブラザーズ（あくまで初期の！）的というか、スプリングスティーン的というか、一本のロードムービーを見終わった感覚に近い読後感を得られた。

斜陽の大国アメリカの真実の一側面。そこに於いては「人間の生活」が確かに営まれている。そんな単純なことに気づかされた。アメリカ文化に興味のある方は一読して損はないだろうと思う。
