日本によく似た架空の島国「和国」を舞台に「幻魔使い」となり戦うシミュレーションロールプレイングゲーム。「和国」では、群雄割拠の戦国時代が終わり、「幕府」による統治が始まった。しかし、何者かが起こした「星落とし」と呼ばれる儀式によって、西方の街「大和の都」が壊滅的被害を被り、時同じくして将軍も死去。世は、怨嗟の声が渦巻く「混沌の時代」へと入る。そんな時代背景のなか、神楽巫女、剣士、異邦人、姫、抜け忍、破戒僧などの個性豊かな「幻魔使い」8人のそれぞれの物語が展開されていく。また、物語を進める「シナリオモード」、CPUを相手に戦略楽しむ「フリーモード」、ユーザー同士で対戦できる「ネットワークモード」の3つのゲームモードを用意。「VM JAPAN」のゲームサントラ全曲を収録したオリジナルサウンドトラックと、交響幻想曲「白き魔女」を収録した音楽CDを同梱した初回限定版。DVD-ROM版。

絵の綺麗さ、アニメキャラ・ストーリーでごまかしてる印象、肝心のゲームシステムは星２つ。一昔前のネクタリスに似た感じで薄っぺらさがぬぐえない。
ユニット使い捨てのカスタムなしで思い入れはない。4すくみのバランス配置で落ち着くので個性も出せず何面やっても連続ぎみのような。爽快感より緊張感が続く。

ＣＰＵシュミレーションといえばユニットのゴリ押しで解決でしょと、決めてかかる方も多い中、このゲーム卑怯なまでの爆発攻撃・遠隔攻撃と、絶望的な嫌らしさです。俺は単純に理屈がある、将棋のほうが好きだが、時間もかからずやれば結構本気になってしまうあたりで星＋１。

実はVMシリーズをプレイするのはこれがはじめてでして、既存のVMファンの方がこうしたレビューを書くのが筋だとは思うのですが、とても面白かったので一言（＾＾！

本作品は、その目的も明快（敵の幻魔使いを倒していくこと）ですし、双方が織り成す多種の幻魔たちも、じっくりやりこめばやりこむほどその必要性が確認できて一興です。あらゆる幻魔たちをいかにかしこく繰り出していくかが、単純ながら奥が深いと思います。

あと星が５つでなく４つだった理由は、本編クリア後に登場するEXモード（エキスパートモード）が、難しすぎたからです。助けて（笑）！！

ＶＭＶ２より、ずっと複雑になった気がします。

相手の能力を削る技、こっちの能力を上げる技、魅了、その他のマスター固有技、等等。それが良いと思える人には向いてますが、私のように単純な中に面白さを感じる人間は、ちょっとがっかりしたかもしれません。1分のＯＡ、1点の体力に泣くこのゲーム、果たして何人が全レベル、全能力状態のＯＡやら点数を覚えられるでしょうか?いや、もしや私自身のゲームに対する情熱が、歳とるごとになくなっていっただけかもしれませんが…（汗
ただ1つだけはっきり言えるのは、時間さえかければレベルが上がるっていうゲームよりは、ずっと面白いです。ガンガン頭使いましょう。
ボケ防止にももってこいじゃ~
