情報は詳細かつ簡潔。ガイドブックとしてのポイントを押さえた作り。文庫本サイズなので持ち歩くのに便利。また、実際に旧街道を歩いているような臨場感がある。

ＮＨＫの街道てくてく旅を観ていたら段々と東海道に興味を持ってしまいました。東海道についての本を検索していたら、この本を見つけました。コンパクトなわりに豊富な情報量にびっくりしました。この本を持って東海道を歩いてみたいと思いました。

この夏、実際この本を使って旧東海道を旅しました。
自転車で、しかも京都から東京に向かっての旅でしたので、本来の使い方ではなかったのかもしれませんが、
ルート図を参考に、それぞれの街道沿いの名所等も写真に納めながら楽しく旅ができました。
コンパクトな大きさと、適度な説明で使い便利という点ではとても有効でした。

ただ、上述したように逆から進んでいったためときどき道を間違えることがありました。
特に東京側から見て「つきあたりを右」といった記載箇所ではよくルートをはずれてしまい
旅の後半はそういった箇所では逐一とまって確認して進みました。

とはいえ、旅が終わってぼろぼろになりながらもこの夏の大変よい思い出づくりに貢献してくれました。
きっとこの本を相棒に旅に出られる方がまだまだ出てくるだろうと思います。
（峠越えなどは徒歩で行かれることをおすすめします・・・自転車をかついではとても大変でした）

宿場ごとに書かれており、地図も詳しくわかりやすい。内容豊かにもかかわらず非常にコンパクト持ち運びしやすい街道てくてく旅には最適でしょう。
