とにかく薄いです。169頁でハードカバーというもの。これで1000円はないような気がします。竹中氏らしく、切れ味のよい論調で民主党政権が抱える問題点（重税国家への懸念、雇用対策の欠如など）を指摘している部分は「なるほど」と思います。しかし、小泉・竹中改革への批判への反論として「レッテル貼り」としていますが、ご自身も「ゾンビ企業」「総務官僚の陰謀」などと、各所でレッテル貼りをして批判していた過去をお忘れなんでしょうか？また、政権交代のキッカケになった日本郵政のかんぽの宿問題について、何一つ論じてないのはガッカリです。私は、かんぽの宿売却に何一つ疑惑は無かったと思っているので、竹中さんに論破して欲しかったのです。戦後初の本格的な政権交代を論じる本としては、いささか物足りないと感じました。PHPのこのシリーズは書き下ろしというより、「語り下ろし」なんでしょうか？

最近、あらゆるところで非難されている竹中氏が、自ら冷静に行なった反論です。
確かに、共感するものは多いです。

麻生内閣の段階では、自民党はもうどうしようもなくなっていたというのもこの本を読んで
いたら改めて感じさせてくれます。
要するに、「自民党は末期症状だった。そして次点昇格で民主党になった。」という
国民誰もが理解している世の流れを当事者が冷静に語った本です。

ただ、そこまで言うのなら小泉氏、竹中氏、両者とも改革を完成させるまで
引退するべきではなかったのではないでしょうか？
両者とも中途半端に政界引退してしまい、それによって自民党が転落した。
まさに自民党をぶっ壊した張本人が、安全なところから行なった冷静な愚痴の書です。
