   岩井俊二が93年にフジテレビの番組「ifもしも」の１本として製作したTVドラマにもかかわらず、同年日本映画協会新人賞を受賞した上映時間45分の中編。翌94年、劇場公開。
   港町に繰り広げる小学生の男の子たちが主人公。彼らは打ち上げ花火を横から見たら丸いのか、平べったいのかと言い争いになる。それを確かめるため、花火大会の夜に町はずれの灯台へ行こうと計画する。憧れの美少女、なずなへの淡い思いが重なって彼らの夏休みは過ぎていく。港町の生活感や、子役として活躍をしていた山崎裕太や奥菜 恵の生き生きとした演技を引き出している演出力は、岩井俊二が単なる映像派だけではないことを示している。（堤 昌司）

この作品を観ずして、岩井作品ファンを語るなかれ。
配役は勿論のこと、音楽の使い方、映像の撮り方に至るまで、岩井俊二の世界が凝縮されている作品。サントラもかなりお勧めです！
小学生の頃ってこんな感性で生きてたなぁ、と
とても懐かしく、温かく、ほろ苦く、思い出させてくれる名作。

“セ~ラ~ム~~ン！”“観月ありさぁぁ~~！”にクスっと笑った人も多いはず。

僕が中学生の頃の嵐の夜、この『打ち上げ花火』が放送されるのを偶然見た。
記憶が定かでないが、たしか台風のせいで他の番組が休止になり、
急遽代替番組として『ifもしも』が放送され、その枠でこの作品が
放送されたのだった（もともと劇場用でなくTV用だった）。
後日談によると、本当はお蔵入り寸前だったのを、
台風による差し替えのため偶然に放送されることになったらしい。

それを偶然見た僕は、その後人生で最も好きな映画になるということに
当時は気が付かなかったが、しかし夢中で観ていた。

岩井監督特有の美しい色使いの画面。
短い放送時間に合うようにコンパクトにまとめられているが
決して過不足のない、よく練られた優秀なシナリオ。
少年少女時代特有の「ある雰囲気」を見事に演じて醸し出す役者たち。
作品制作当時の「時代性」を示すさまざまな小ネタ。

この作品は、特に現在20代~30代の男性にとっては、
自分にとっての「なずな」（ヒロインの名前）を思い出せてくれることだろう。

純愛系、ノスタルジック系が好きな人にはオススメ。
最近の関連キーワードは、「電車男」「ぼくのなつやすみ」「セカチュー」など。

個人的には★５個どころではなく、★１００００個くらい付けたい。

彼の作品を観ていていつも感じるのが、
「あ、俺も（私も？）こんなことあったよな」と思わせる感覚です。
実際にはまったく同じ経験をしているわけでもないのに、
いつもどこか懐かしく、時にはチクッとした痛みを伴って
「当時」がよみがえって来る様な感覚を覚えます。

話の内容はスタンドバイミー的な少年の成長物語として王道的な
ストーリですが、岩井作品特有の映像の美しさ、登場人物の演技など、
まったく独創的であり、その後大きな注目を集める岩井的演出がすでに
この作品で完成しているのがわかります。

難しいことをドウコウ言う話ではなく、どうしようもなく過ぎ去っていくだけの青春のせつなさ、
みたいなものを描いている作品だと思います。
もっとも、彼、彼女にとっては始まりでしかないわけで、
もう二度と夏休みなどとることの出来ない私は、観ていて必要以上に
感傷的になってしまいます。ｗ

良い映像です。
