エモコアだ何だといわれてますが、私はこれこそロックだと思います。
吉野さんの正直すぎて少し不恰好なまでの歌声や詞の世界に根底から胸を揺さぶられるようなアツいものを感じます。もともとロックは歌詞が表す不器用なかっこよさ、無骨さを側面として持つ音楽と言っても過言ではないはず。それをただ直訳して借りてきただけのような言葉ではなく、見事に自分が持つ日本語の世界で表現しえた吉野さんのセンスに敬服します。これはイースタンのどの曲にも言えますが、ただ聴くに任せているだけでは終われない、歌詞カードを取って「読んでみたくなる」言葉が全曲に散りばめられています。

また曲はどれも今までのイースタン節を更に高みへと押し上げたような曲群になっていて、今までのキャリアとそして「まだまだこれからだ」というイキオイが見事なバランスでマッチしている最高傑作と言ってもいいかもしれません。
一見、激情疾走系(←だからエモコア？)の曲が多く一時的なカタルシスで終わってしまいそうな感を得られた方もいるかと思いますが、注意深く耳を傾ければ、顔役と言えるヴォーカルやギターの裏でこれでもかと言うほどフレット上を動きまくるベースや、そうしたうねるラインに確かな立体感を持たせるドラムの絡み、といった巧みに練り上げられたリズム隊も聴き所は多分にあります。そうした見事な演奏陣と歌、歌詞とが相乗効果をなし最初の皮膚感は勿論言うことなし、更に何度聞いてもまた味が出てくるという類まれな名作に仕上がっていると思います。
これまでのイースタンファンは勿論、これからのイースタンファンの期待を裏切ることないイースタン史上燦然と光り輝く快作だと思います。また、疾走感がありかつ、確かなメロディラインを持っているという様な音楽が好きな方にも、特に2、4、5はお勧めです。

　歌とか、曲とかいったキレイなものじゃないんだ。
　あえて言うなら、”魂の叫び”。
　叫びといっても、声だけではない。
　ギター、ベース、ドラム…聴こえるもの全てが叫んでいる！

　とにかく 『アバヨ、風の残像』　『ズッコケ問答』 を聴けばわかる。

　飾らないかっこよさ。
　そんなクサい言葉が当てはまるとすれば、それは この音だけだ。
　本当に 冷静ではいられずに出す むきだしの感情。
　だが、そこらに溢れる 喚くだけのような ただ青い奴らでは決して無い。
　むしろ逆。
　叫ばなければならない時の叫び、その重さを知るからこそ
　言葉がずっしり心に響く。

　私にとって 一番思い入れがあるのは 『夜明けの歌』
　始めて聴いたとき、この感情は 自分だけが持っているものじゃないんだ と救われ、涙が止まらなかった。

　言葉選びのセンスだけでなく、演奏テクニックも申し分ない。
『踵鳴る』のラストなんて もう鳥肌もんである。

　もし私が外国人に ”日本のロック” のオススメは？ と聞かれたとすれば、
　紹介するのは間違いなくこの一枚だろう。

｢夜明けの歌｣を聴きながら新たなイースタンの世界観に掴まれてしまっていた。何かを覚悟した者の持つ力強さと次への船出の期待感を｢踵を鳴る｣思いで待っているのだ。其処には、道程も経典も標識も要らない。
｢静寂が燃える｣のモノトーンの写真に引き寄せられ破顔一笑し、ヒートアイランド現象に喘ぐ車の列に痺れを切らしている目の前をアバヨと風の残像が行き過ぎた･･･。
先日のライブでは｢黒い太陽｣の嗅覚･神経･人格！の所で、思わず吉野氏の表情に吊られてしまい、苦笑。

音の付け方はさすがプロと言うべき。そしてやはり言うべきは詩作の能力の高さ。若い頃は愛聴してたし今でも昔を惜しみ聞く。聞いて欲しいなあこういう本物の文学。
