ティファニーは招待状もないのに
ブロディ家の昼食会に潜り込んだ。
不幸な出来事の末、
頼る人もいないポルトガルで殆ど無一文になってしまったため
雑誌社に買ってもらう記事のネタを探すためだった。
狙いをつけたのは時期当主「カーラム」だったが
玉の輿狙いの低俗な女と烙印を押されてしまう。
その後、こっそり居候をしていた下宿からも追い出され
まさに無一文になったティファニーは
最後の硬貨でブロディ家の昼食会で知り合った
クリスに電話をかける。
誘われていた「愛人」になると言うために。

初めから誰にも恋愛感情がないヒロインが
最後は愛に目覚めるという内容なのだが
なかなか話し運びが良く、
クリスのひたむきな愛がいい。
お互いの気持ちを打ち明けるシーンも切ない雰囲気で
読んだ後がいい気分だった。
