今頃気づいたのだが、この０８年盤はデジタル・リマスターされている。音質は０５年盤より向上し、表情が豊かになった。また、０５年盤には英語の歌詞しかついていなかったのに対し、本エディションには日本語訳がついている。アナログ時代の邦題も「愛しのニコレット」だったと記憶している。

リンダ・ロンシュタットの妹分のような感じで登場したニコレット・ラーソンの７８年発表のデビュー作にして代表作。自作曲を歌うシンガーではないので、選曲が重要となるが、ニール・ヤングのLotta Loveがヒットする等、佳曲がめじろおし。その１曲目はもちろん、サム・クックで有名な３曲目、バート・バカラック作曲の５曲目、ビル・ペインが作曲者の１人でキーボードも担当している７曲目、アダム・ミッチェル作の９曲目、Ｊ．Ｄ．サウザーとグレン・フライ共作の１１曲目が特にお薦め。リンダ・ロンシュタットが幾つかの曲でバック・コーラスに加わる等、バックの演奏も豪華。皆でこの愛らしい彼女を盛り立てようという雰囲気に満ちている。その彼女は１９９７年に他界。もう１０年が過ぎたが、このアルバムはリアル・タイムで夢中になった人には忘れられないだろうし、生前の彼女を知らない人にも聴き継がれることを期待できる文句なしに素晴らしい作品だ。

ニコレット・ラーソン、７８年発表のデビュー作です。ニール・ヤング作の１、ジェシー・ウィンチェスター作の２をはじめ、秀逸なカヴァー（１０のように彼女のために書かれた曲もあります）が多いのが特徴となっています。個人的な思い出として当時中学生でお金がなかったためこのアルバムは友人からテープに落としてもらい、以降四作目までのアルバムはアナログで購入。その後しばらくご無沙汰していたのですが、映画「ツインズ」でジェフ・ベックとの競演を目にしたのを機に再認識して、本作を改めてＣＤで購入しました。改めて聴いてみてその間に耳にした様々な音楽の影響からか、サム・クックの３や、アート・ガーファンクルのカヴァーで聞いたことのある人もいるであろう９なんかが以前とはずいぶん違う印象でした。彼女の場合、本作以降のアルバムについては必ずしもそのどれもが両手離しでというわけにはいきませんが、クレジットに名を連ねるミュージシャンや、当時の雰囲気を十全に伝えている（という気持ちにこちらをさせてくれる）ジャケットの、溌剌とした笑顔に、このアルバムがウェスト・コーストの最良の時代を切り取ってくれているような気持ちにいざなわれます。

この作品紹介には当時の豪華アーティストが記されているが、ある偉大なギタリストの名は入っていない。アルバム製作当時LAでは凄腕のギタリストとして有名だったものの、メジャー契約したばかりでほぼ無名であったためその名がアルバムに記されることがなかったが、2009年アメリカでギター・ゴッドの称号を与えられ、又、マイケル・ジャクソンの輝ける伝説におけるキー・パーソン（スリラーの「ビート・イット」）のエディー・ヴァン・ヘイレンその人である。このアルバムと同年に発表されたのが名作「VAN HALEN」であり、両作品ともプロデューサーはテッド・テンプルマンというのもそれを裏付けるものである。作品中４曲目の「あなたのとりこ」でのギター・サウンドを聴けばEVHフリークならすぐに気づくだろう。この作品はEVHファンにおける隠れた名作である。
