A pretty cool little short film with the flavor of a 60's Japanese Giant Monster film, created entirely in CG by one man.
The story, in short, humans are terraforming Mars and they discover a dormant monster, Negadon. They decide to bring it back to Earth but en route, the shuttle carrying Negadon explodes. The monster crashes to Earth and starts obliterating Tokyo. A lone scientist must use his 3 story tall super robot to defeat it.
The atmosphere and set work is really amazing. He nailed the feeling of old school scifi and monster movies perfectly. The overall direction of the film is done very well also. Especially stuff without humans.
The robot and monster themselves are impressive and well designed, animated.
The only shortcoming here is the human characters. As animation gets more and more realistic, little things/flaws that are present in the animation, models and textures really start to draw a lot of attention. The director was definitely aware of this because he never really animates people doing much other than standing in place and talking. Lip motion is particularly bad, and more often than not when people are talking the director chooses, wisely, to cut away. However when he doesn't...it hurts the illusion he is creating.
Nonetheless, Negadon is a fun film. It's short, it's explosive (though I wish there were even more explosions, the monster battle is well articulated but painfully short) and it's sexy. There are no English subs but the story is pretty easy to follow even if you have a very rudimentary understanding of Japanese.
