性非行や性的犯罪に関して、とくにそのカウンセリングや処遇についての研究は、とくにアメリカでは非常に盛んである。しかし、日本ではこの分野の研究はほとんどないと行っても過言ではない。性非行に焦点を当てた処遇を行っている施設もあるが、試行の域をでていないのが現状である。このような現状のなかで、この問題をレビューし、まとめたのは、評価できる。しかし、本書の内容を精査してみると、海外のとくに９０年代後半のレビューを勉強して、それをまとめたという域を出ていない感じがする。とくにそれを強く感じるのは、アメリカの性犯罪と日本の性犯罪は、そのパタンや動機などが相当異なっているのだが、アメリカの性犯罪についての海外の著作の記述を現代の日本の性犯罪でも同様に当てはまる??のと安易に解釈しすぎてる部分などである。著者は、家庭裁判所の医官であるようで、この種の犯罪者に関してある程度の経験はあるようなのだが、海外のレビュー論文を学習してまとめる以上に、ここの患者と真剣に向き合って、研究をさらに進展させて欲しい。

　最近，「ちかん」の問題が世間を騒がせている。週刊誌などでは，大人の犯罪が取りざたされているが，少年の「ちかん」の問題は無視されている。 　この本は，「ちかん」に限らず，少年の性をめぐる問題を「原因究明」と「治療」の両側面から探求したものであり，少年のみならず，大人の性犯罪を理解する上でも必須のものとなろう。

　学校の教師，少年院や刑務所の職員など，青少年の性の問題と直面している人にはぜひ読んでいただきたい本です。 　内容は高度ですが，著者の適切な解説により，性非行にどのように対処したらよいかがよく分かります。 　類書はほとんどなく，この本が国内唯一のまとまった文献といってよいでしょう。

この本は性非行少年の現状、メカニズム、治療方法を大変具体的にわかりやすく書いています。一般的に信じられているうそをデータを示し覆していく所は圧巻です。性非行の問題が深刻化している現在、この本は性非行少年に関係する全ての人が読むべき教科書ともいうべき一冊だと思います。
