主人公の蓮見夏子は、まだ自分の目標が定まらず毎日を生きてきた。
ある日パラレルワールドから現れた村上コーチに別世界の自分の
代役を頼まれることになる。

別世界の自分はなんとマラソンのオリンピックの金メダリスト。
2度目の連覇がかかる選考レースを前に故障を起こし、
ピンチに陥っているという。

行ってみよう、もう一人の私の人生を見に。。
夏子は村上の頼みを聞き、別世界へ。
誰しも、もう一つの人生があったらと思うことがあると思う。
そうやって今の自分から逃げているのかもしれない。

中盤からはスポーツ小説として展開する。
夏子は猛特訓を乗り越え、選考レースに挑む。
夏子はだんだん、単なる代役ではなくなってゆく。。
レースシーンでは読んでいる私も主人公とともに走っているような
気持ちになりました。

自分の世界に戻った夏子は、自分を見つめなおし成長をする。
悔いのないように、今を精一杯生きていこう。
という、とても前向きなお話です。

驚くほどの読みやすさの中に感動があり、時には涙して夢中になって
読んでしまいました。
第20回日本ファンタジーノベル大賞・優秀賞受賞作として納得の
お薦めできる一冊です。

マラソンコーチの村上は、怪我でマラソンを走ることができない女性ランナー蓮見夏希の代わりに、パラレルワールドからマラソン選手になっていない蓮見夏希を連れてきてマラソンを走ってもらう計画を考える。発想としてはおもしろいと思うのだが、展開があまりにもうまくいきすぎて物足りなかった。例えば別世界の同一人物同士が接触して別の世界に飛ばされてしまうとか、別世界の人間が間違えて紛れ込んでしまうとか、同一人物同士で協力し合ってマラソンを完走するとか、もう少し物語の展開を膨らませてほしかった。

後半はテンポが良く、特にレースの箇所の描写は勢いがあって引き込まれましたが、いかんせん前半の作り込みの甘さのせいで興がそがれてしまいました。

キャラクターの個性や平行世界の設定をもう少しきちんと作り込めばもっと面白かったのに……と思ってしまいました。
