今もっとも一般的と言われているビックバン宇宙論に関しての入門書

もともと学部上級生用の講義ノートを基にしていて、電磁気学、統計力学、古典力学、量子力学などの基本的な事柄を理解していることが求められているが、とても丁寧に書かれている。一般相対性理論の知識は必要としていないので、大学１，２年生で自習程度に宇宙論に首を突っ込んで見たい人にはお勧めです。

ただ、訳書ゆえに日本語で読み取りにくいところがないとは言えないけれど、入門書でここまで詳しく書かれている本はないと思う。

　銀河などの構造形成の過程よりも、「入れ物」としての宇宙の記述に
重きを置いた入門書。
　数式が山ほど出てくるが、多くは理系大学教養課程の微積分の知識が
あれば追っていけるし、なによりこの本の優れたところは数式の物理的
な意味について言葉やグラフで丁寧に解説してくれるところ。このため
式の導出について読み飛ばしていってもエッセンスは理解できる（でき
た気になる？）ようになっている。
　まじめに学習したい人はもちろん、一般向けの「科学読み物」に飽き
てちょっと上を目指したい趣味人にもオススメ。

　大学のセミナーで使っている本です。洋書ですが、内容的にも英語的にも非常に分かりやすく書かれていて、作者のユーモアが感じられます。
　数式がかなり出てきますが大学初級レベルの数学が分かっていたらある程度はついていけるでしょう。宇宙論を勉強してみたい人は是非読んでみて下さい。
