これは面白い！
洋々たる大宇宙を舞台にした血湧き肉踊る筆舌に尽くし難い人を喰った冒険譚。
「色んな変な星を旅しました。」という話(ディアスポラ？)なので、
いつもは筋が分からなくなってしまうラファティ苦手の人にも是非。

いや、いや。男たちは家路についた。このふたつは同じことじゃない。”

そりゃそうだ（笑）
そこから始まる宇宙戦争の英雄ロードストラム艦長の放浪の旅。
ホメロスの格調高い語り口に騙されてはいけません。元ネタ『オデュッセイア』もあれで結構なトンデモ話。
稀代の法螺吹き作家ラファティがそのトンデモエッセンスを抽出し、無駄に華麗な修辞を散りばめて、ちょびっと毒もまぶして大馬鹿話に仕立て上げた、これはそんな物語。
元ネタ知ってる人はニヤニヤ、知らない人はアハハと笑って、オヤジの法螺話を楽しみましょう。
「前のときはどうだった？」のロードストラム始め、乗組員の面々、異星人の誰も彼も、キャラ立ってます。

ラファティの短編は飛び切り上質なおかしさを提供してくれるのに、長編となると、ちょっと…と感じていられる方にも、この「宇宙舟歌」はお勧めできます。
次々とヘンな惑星を訪問しては、奇想天外な冒険を繰り返すというストーリーなので、まあ、一種の連作集として読めます。
例によって、ステキなほら話が次々と展開します。

ところで、このストーリー、ギリシア神話の「オデュセウス」を下敷きにしています。
「オデュセウス」を読んでからこちらを読むと、その元ネタのデフォルメぶりにまたまた感嘆できます。
そう、「オデュセウス」のパロディとしても読むことができます。一冊で２倍楽しめるというのでしょうか？
もっとも、ラストだけは「オデュセウス」と違っていますが…このラストの違いがいかにもラファティというか…
あまり詳しく書くとネタばれになりますので、これくらいにしておきますが。
巻末の解説にひととおり「オデュセウス」の関連箇所は紹介してありますが、ここはやはり「オデュセウス」を読んでから、この「宇宙舟歌」を読みましょう。
私はサトクリフさんが易しく書き直した「The Wanderings of Odysseus」でオデュセウスをおさらいしました。
ついでに、ギリシア神話のおもしろさにも開眼できます。
そうですね、ラファティはこういう神話的な話を語りたかったのかもしれませんね。
