ルパンシリーズの最高傑作なのに
なぜかレビューの評価が低いことに笑いました。
日頃マンガやライトノベルに親しんでいる日本の読者にとっては
ルパンのキャラクターは中途半端に思えるのかもしれません。

ルパンは超人的な人間ですが、完璧な人間ではありません。
完璧な人間など、すでに人間ではないでしょう。
彼は弱さを抱えて苦悩する一個の人間なのです。
特に女性にはめっぽう弱い。自意識過剰で挑戦的。
そして、法律は破りますが「悪」は犯しません。

『奇岩城』では宝探しが堪能できます。
隠された財宝、王家の秘密、なぞめいた暗号。
RPGのダンジョン探検が好きな人なら興奮できるのではないでしょうか？
ただ、ホームズファンからは嫌われているようです。
怪盗と名探偵とは永久に分かり合えないのかもしれません。

ジュブナイルっていうのか、ちょっと子供向けっぽいところもあるけど、ルパン物に限らず冒険物の作品では本書が最高だと思う。
ルパンにホームズ、そして少年探偵イジドール・ボートルレが入り乱れての大混戦！
これで胸ときめかない人って、まずいなんじゃないかなあ。

ちなみに本書は、作者が「オペラ座の怪人」で有名なガストン・ルルーの代表傑作「黄色い部屋の謎」に触発されて書かれた作品で、「黄色い〜」に登場する少年探偵・ルルタビーユに対抗する意味で、少年探偵イジドール・ボートルレが登場している。
これが後にわが国では、少年探偵団や名探偵コナン、金田一少年につながっていると考えるのは、ちょっと穿ち過ぎかな。

怪盗ルパンの活躍を描く
ピカレスクロマンの一巻。
大作ですが悪漢ロマンという割にはスケールの小さい犯罪。
そして、それを追いかける道化役はさらにステレオタイプの
やられ役と化してしまっています。

古典的な冒険活劇だと思って読めばそんなものですが
