帯や店頭POPを見る限りでは、女性の同性愛が
テーマの基軸になっているような雰囲気でしたが
内容は決してそれだけではないと感じました。
もっと深い、男女という性、もっと言うならば
現代に生きる人という生き物がこころに抱える、昏い「孤独」
そういった哀しみを、森下さんは『大阪ハムレット』
と同じ飄々とした語り口で表現しています。

魂に深い孤独を巣食わせる女性、美波と
こころを通わせてゆく主人公、夏子。

月明りの下、夏子と美波が互いの孤独を慰め合うシーン。
そして、母なる胎内（それは女性である彼女自身でもある）
へ還ってゆくラストシーンは何度読んでも涙が出ました。

夏子は最後「さよなら」と呟いて
母に掛けられてしまった呪縛から自らを解き放ちます。
過去を棄て去ることはできない。
恨みや憎しみからはなにも生まれない。
しかしたとえその傷を抱えたままでも
いたみに拘らず、囚われずに生きて行くことは
できるのだ、と
いままで自分が迷い苦しんできたことへの確かな答えを
もらった気がしました。

すべてひとの、すべての苦しみに対する答えではないと思います。
でも
生きることに、こころに、いたみを覚えるすべての人へ
何らかの慰めになればいい
そう願ってこの作品をおすすめします。

ガクガクブルブルで読み終え、そういえば作者はごまちゃんブレイク以前、ガロとジャンプ両方で描いてた恐ろしいひとだったことを思い出す血も凍るマンガ読み体験。
普通にゴマちゃんとかかわいい四コマ描いた方が雑誌も作者も割が良いんじゃないかと、知らんのに思いますが、でもこんなにもスゴいの描いちゃうんですね。
作品に星５つどころではないほど楽しませていただきましたが、それよりもまず安楽な道をとらずにこれだけの作品をものした作り手側のその姿勢に感動します。

偶然、「白い薔薇の淵まで」という、女性同士の同性愛の小説を読んだばかりだったんですが、
今ひとつ、感動しなかったのですよ。
なんていうか、女性同士であるなんの必然性もないなという感じで。
たんに、男と女の恋愛を、女女に置き換えただけだろって。

で、その後にこのコミックを読んだわけです。
最初は、先へ先へと急いで読んで、
その後、じっくりと読み直しました。

いやー、白薔薇の１００倍どころじゃない、無限大に伝わってくるものがありました。
しかも、読み返すとまた新たな発見もあり、主人公の夏子は、もちろんのこと、
夏子の同性愛の相手の美波の底の知れなさ、
美波の夫の気持ち悪さ、
そして、夏子に呪いをかけた夏子の母。
全員何かしらの心の傷を心の底に抱えて、それがサボテンの棘のように、
人を刺す。
あ、読み直して、夏子の妹、母親の呪いに囚われて過食症。

対する、夏子の婚約者「タカちゃん」
底抜けの優しさ。そして真っ当さ。
タカちゃんの父母の、屈託のない明るさと優しさ。
たぶん、血を吐くような思いをしたことのない人たち・・・

貧すれば鈍す・・・って、確かにあるのだろうな。

何が言いたいのかよくわからなくなってきた。
是非に読んでくださいってお奨めしたい本です。

そして、何度でも読み返すだろう本です。
