吉田 秀和
1913年9月23日、日本橋生れ。東京大学仏文科卒。現在、水戸芸術館館長。戦後、評論活動を始め『主題と変奏』(1953年)で指導的地位を確立。48年、井口基成、斎藤秀雄らと「子供のための音楽教室」を創設し、後の桐朋学園音楽科設立に参加。57年、「二十世紀音楽研究所」を設立。75年『吉田秀和全集』で大佛次郎賞、90年度朝日賞、『マネの肖像』で読売文学賞受賞。2006年、文化勲章受章。著書多数(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

レコード表がバッサリ割愛されたのはなんとも残念である。たしかに、著者あとがきの通り、現時点で新しいレコード表を作るとすれば選曲から見直さねばならず（ことにバロック以前と現代曲では８０年代以降の録音で当時と全く状況が変わっている）、そうすると新潮文庫の旧版とは別の新しい本ということになり、「吉田秀和コレクション」の一冊としてはふさわしくないだろうし、なにより著者にその気力・体力がなければ不可能な話であるが、それならば新潮文庫版の忠実な復刻として当時のレコード表をそのまま収録してもらいたかったものである。これを買うくらいならば古書で新潮文庫版を入手した方がよいだろう。

新潮文庫版のLP300選という本の題名にどうも違和感をもっていた。巻末に推薦レコード(LP)があるから間違っているということではないが、本の内容は吉田秀和が選ぶ名曲選なのである。さらにいうとモーツァルトのK.563などは吉田秀和が愛する曲に対する想いを綴った文章になっている。だから名曲300選という題名がふさわしいと思う。新潮文庫がボロボロになってしまったのでちくま文庫での再刊を喜んでいます。
