贈り物を包むために誕生した礼法である折形には、以前から興味があったのだけど、これは「半紙」を使ってあるところでまず惹かれた。

和紙だと、それ自体お高いものも多いため、失敗したときのことを考えたりすると結構勇気がいるし、大きな一枚和紙を買ってもそれを美しく裁つのにまたまた失敗。なぁんてことが多かった。使わなかった部分を収納するのにもまた苦労したり。

この本には「折形デザイン研究所」が出している半紙も紹介されているけれど、身近に手にはいるお習字用の半紙でもとても素敵なものができます。
お習字用で売っている半紙もいろいろなランクがあって、紙を変えると趣も変わり素敵なものがたくさんできました。

贈り物に留まらず、日常生活のいろんなシーンで重宝する折形が月ごとの歳時記に合わせてに紹介されていて、日本の文化や歴史を背景を学びながら折り上げていくのも楽しいもの。
ひさびさに一生ものの本と出合えました。

これは、年齢のせいばかりではないと思うのですが、
とても日本的なものごとに、惹きつけられることがあります。
「折形」とは耳慣れない言葉ですが、和紙でものを包み、贈る作法のことだとか。
知らなくてもどうということはないのでしょうが、知っていてしかも使えたら、
必ず自分でも人間の格が上がったように感じそうです。
もちろん、周囲の評価もぐっと上がることでしょう。

でも本当はそんなことよりも「包む」ということの粋を楽しみたい。
季節ごとの挨拶でさりげなく表せたら、
ほら、自分自身がとてもゆたかになっていくのを感じませんか。
小澤實さんの俳句とともに表された一年の月日。
一月の「箸」から十二月の「手帳」まで、うつくしい礼の形を身に付けたいと思います。

それは
貝であれば、浅い春の海鳴りを
新茶であれば、馥郁とした香りを
夏足袋であれば、涼風を
鏡であれば、嗜みを
炭であれば、はぜる音を……
それぞれに添えられたことばとすがたから
和心の美しさを堪能できる一冊です。
