本書はスコットランドの遺跡、史跡の専門書であり、商品の説明にあるような「旅行者の「ガイド・ブック」にもなる」ような本ではない。専門的で基礎知識なく読んでも意味を成さない。基本的に遺跡の様子とその解説であり、興味深い部分もあるが、図版が少なくわかりずらい。固有名詞の表記が尋常でなく、一般の人には奨められない。過ぎた要約、勘違いしやすい解説、明瞭な誤りもあり、本格的な研究にはスコットランドの書籍を推奨する。古代遺跡に特別な興味があり、十分な知識のある人にはマーケットプレイスでの購入を奨める。普通に買うような本ではない。
