円紫師匠と《私》シリーズから読んでいるので、私にとっての初めての北村薫流”探偵”。個人的には「行動であり結果」でもあり「存在であり意思」でも結局起こる事象にはあまり大差ないと思うのだが。

さておき。
相変わらず伏線や小ネタが多すぎてちょっと田中潤司の解説がないときつかった。文章が難解なのではなく、文章の意図するところが難解なのかな。
内容も今冬ぴったりの作品。

北村薫作品を読むのは2作目です。

初めて読んだ「ターン」とは、若干毛色が違いますが、名探偵「巫（かんなぎ）弓彦」と言う強烈なキャラクターが登場します。

3つの短編が収録されていますが、2作目と3作目は併せて完結という感じです。

前奏曲、間奏曲として謡曲「舎利」の一説が挿入されています。

巫弓彦が自らを、「韋駄天」に例えているからなのでしょう。
仏舎利から歯を盗んだ俊足の「足疾鬼」を捕らえたのが、それを上回る俊足「韋駄天」だったことによるのですが、状況を聞くだけで犯人が分かり瞬く間に解決してしまう巫弓彦は正に「韋駄天」である訳です。

3作目は、やるせない結末ですが、後味が悪くならないのは名探偵「巫弓彦」が新聞配達やビヤガーデンのウェイター等をしながら生活の糧を得ていると言うキャラクター設定によるところが大きいですね。

巫弓彦の次作が出ればまだ是非読んでみたいと思います。

最初はユーモラスな作品なのかと思っていました。
しかし、読んでいくうちに哀しく寂しくなってきました。

北村薫って、ちょっと残酷ですよね。

自分の心が他人より醜いことに気づいていないヒトへの一刺し、そして、哀しい運命から懸命に逃れようとするヒトへの哀悼...
いずれも、この作品では声を荒げることなく、静かに描写されています。

それだけに、心に色々と積もっていくような気が。そして、探偵が雪の中を背中を丸めて歩いていく姿がそこに重なります。
でも、ヒロインの素直な明るさが、ポツンと心に灯りをともしてくれるのです...
