とにかく、いろんなセックスのやり方が紹介される本。

正常位、後背位などのポピュラーな体位からわけのわからない体位まで、いろいろな体位を世界各国の事例で紹介している。その体位の種類と事例が幅広いので、読み物としては面白く、また、セックスに関する雑学ないしトリビアを仕込むためにはなかなか有益な本である。

が、性の歴史について新たな、あるいはより深い知見を得た、という気分にはあまりならない。本書には、体位という窓を通じて文化・社会・歴史を再考する、という問いかけの姿勢が乏しいからだろうと思われる。そういう意味で、文化史と称する割には、文化史的な刺激に欠ける。

つまり本書は、肩の凝らない、愉快でエロティックで「ちょっと知的」風な読み物、という感じ。収録された数多くの図像は結構面白く、興味を惹かれることは確か。また、最後の付録の四十八手解説はちょっと笑える。本当にこれを試すという「実戦的」な利用法をする読者はいるのだろうか？

　日本も、この程度であれば許されるようになり、
ちょっとまともになったかなという感じ。
　芸術にも欲望があり、欲望が芸術を動かすこともある。
　子供には見せたくないと思いつつも、一方では当たり前のこと。
　こういう本が出て、当たり前のこととして議論できる土台ができつつあるのかな、というのが、文化の爛熟度を示しているようで、ある種の安心を持ちます。

ヴァギナだのなんだのと「知的」にごまかしているエロス研究者の方々に、是非実際のセックスを充実させるものとして知っていただきたい知識。自慰行為ばかりでなく、人の役に立つのが勉学ですから。
