「銀翼のイカルス」と「尖塔」とゆう名曲を収録しているカンサスの1975年作。

まずジャケットの何ともグロテスクなイラストが印象的だが、よ〜くみるとかなり遊びが含ま
れていて面白い。
さて内容の方は先に上げた2曲以外はほとんどが小品で構成されていて、プログレとして聴く
ならかなり統一感に欠けるもののそこここに散りばめられているフレーズは結構いいものが
あります。
スティーヴ・ウォルシュ作の「It Takes a Woman's Love (To Make a Man)」と「It's You」
のわかり易いノリとギターに泣きが入ってるケリー・リヴグレン作の「Child of Innocence」
のコントラストは妙で退屈しませんね。
その二人の音楽的相違がぶつかりあって弾けてる「Mysteries and Mayhem」の一気に聴かせる
緊張感もGOOD。

そして「銀翼のイカルス」......熱いね。。特にスティーヴ・ウォルシュのヴォーカルとフィ
ル・イハートのドラミングが熱い。フィル・イハートなんかはライヴ映像などを見る限りでも
表情一つ変えずに淡々と叩いてる印象が強いんですが、この音を聴いてると内に秘めるものは
人一倍なんだろうと感じる。
「尖塔」の方も彼らの代表曲で実に壮大、実に感動的な一大抒情詩だ。

カンサスはジャンル分けするとボストンらと同じアメリカン・プログレ・ハードとゆうスタイ
ルになりますが、このアメリカン・プログレ・ハードと云うものはとかく定義が曖昧でわかり
にくいものですが、そう感じる人にこそ本作収録の「銀翼のイカルス」を聴いて貰いたいです
ね。
艶のあるヴァイオリンの音色を顕著に涙腺を刺激するドラマチックな旋律を、縦横無尽に躍動
するグルーヴでこれ以上なくダイナミズムに聴かせる...まさにこれこそアメリカン・プログ
レ・ハードだ!

あなたが、言わずもがなのプログレ・ファンなら迷わず３曲目から聴こう！
（スティーヴ作の２曲は飛ばして（笑））
イカルスはカンサスの魅力が詰まった超名曲だ！
イントロのピアノのアルペジオから印象的なヴァイオリンのフレーズが始まり
へヴィなバンドサウンドと絡みシンクロして飛び立つ！
そこへスティーヴの哀愁の米HRヴォイスである。無敵にして必殺、でしょう。
再結成作でも続編を作ってるくらいだから彼らもこの曲に思い入れがあるのでしょう。
イカルスだけではありません。ラスト２曲（ボーナストラックを除く）はフェイド・アウトで
切れてはいるものの組曲になっていてアップテンポの前曲に対しフレーズを引き継いだ後曲がシンフォニックに展開していく構成。聴き応えあり！です。
他にもメロディアスで歌えるプログレが揃ってて満足度は高いでしょう。
上記の２曲やカントリーチックなヴァイオリンが活躍するIt'sYouは息抜きにどうぞ！
