   深作欣二監督の実録ヤクザ映画シリーズ第3作。今回は昭和35年から38年までの広島を舞台に、ヤクザ同士の血みどろの抗争を描いていく。広島最大の暴力団・村岡組の跡目をめぐって山守（金子信雄）と打本（加藤武）が対立。打本は広能（菅原文太）を仲介に神戸の明石組組長（丹波哲郎）に盃を申し入れるが、それを不快とした村岡は、山守を跡目に据えた。抗争に敗れた打本は神戸の明石組組長（丹波哲郎）の元へ逃れ、一方の山守は神戸の神和会と手を組んだ。かくして代理戦争が勃発していく…。
   複雑怪奇に入り組んでいく男たちの思惑と行動を見事にさばく深作演出は、ここでも絶好調。シリーズの人気者（？）山守組長に匹敵するほど狡猾な打本役の加藤武も、味のある演技を披露している。（的田也寸志）

　一作目で既成のやくざ映画の概念を打ち破った脚本：笠原和夫、監督：深作欣二、主演：菅原文太のトリオは、大成功を受けて続編であり、番外編的な「広島死闘篇」を作った後、抗争の主軸を描く本作、続いて事実上の完結篇である「頂上作戦」を撮って彼らの四部作を完成させます。（「完結篇」は脚本が笠原和夫ではない後日談）
　シリーズ中、もっとも派手なドンパチシーンがない作品でありながら、敵味方入り乱れての杯合戦、内部の権力闘争など、面白さで群を抜く集団劇となっている。この集団劇を支えるのは個性的な多くの役者の存在である。小林旭の二枚目ぶり、梅宮辰夫の貫禄（＋眉なし）、金子信雄のいい加減さ、加藤武の弱腰、渡瀬恒彦の純粋さ、川谷拓三の寝取られ男ぶり、成田三樹夫のスマートさ、山城新伍のやんちゃ、田中邦衛の小心、室田日出男の日和見、内田朝雄の大親分ときて、丹波哲郎の無言の写真出演まで多士済々。そんな中で、遠藤辰男と山本麟一のコンビが秀逸でした。人間の自己保身や組の利害関係に翻弄され、最後に憤りで渡瀬恒彦の骨を握り締める菅原文太の表情でキッチリ締めてくれます。

決して一枚岩では無い組織内部の矛盾､不雑に絡み合った人間関係の描写､時として逆の立
場に入れ替わる敵味方の関係等､文章にすると｢分かりにくい｣作品と感じるかも知れませ
んが､そんな事はありません｡この作品からは､一つの明確なメッセージが伝わってきます｡

それは｢組織の長の優柔不断､戦略の無さが混乱を招き､下の立場の人間の犠牲を生む｣と言
う事です｡

私自身､人事とは思えない､広能昌三(菅原文太)の苦悩と強かさ､子分である倉元猛(渡瀬恒
彦)の一途さと､壮絶な死が印象に残る作品です｡

本作品で特に印象に残った台詞です｡(笑)

｢ところで､こいつの今後の身の振り方何じゃが､どうじゃろ､こんな(広島弁で｢君､お前｣の
元で極道修行させちゃってくれんかのう？｣(!広能の小学校時代の教師が､倉元を紹介する
シーンより)

この作品のファンは非常に多いことでしょう。菅原文太も金子信雄も小林旭も、それから成田三樹夫や田中邦衛も実に素晴らしい。

しかし、ここはやっぱり打本役の加藤武じゃないでしょうか。
もうあの弱腰にはワクワクするなあ。この作品は何度も見てるけど、加藤武が出てくるだけで、うれしくてうれしくて。
ワクワクした後は、何をやっても失敗ばかりに大爆笑。

いいなあ。加藤武自身も打本は大好きな役で「このような人物が頂点に立っていると、戦争は起きないんだ」と語っていたとか。

もちろん、金子信雄演じる山守に飲み屋でいじめられる場面が最高の見所なんだけどね（大爆笑だよなあ）。

加藤武は個人的に好きな役者で、この打本役と、映画『豚と軍艦』の中の役が大変気に入っております。
