著者が大学の一般教養の「情報処理原論」で使用した教材を元に作られたそうで、「電気回路」「２進数」「暗号の歴史」「オートマトン」などなど、広範囲に渡って平易な文章で書かれています。
コンピュータの知識がなくても読めますので、IT企業に入社して、色々と知識を身につけなければいけない方の入門書として最適な1冊です。この本を入り口にして、更に専門的な内容の書籍を購入すれば良いでしょう。

5.0 out of 5 stars この人の授業を受けたくなる, 2009/7/23
著者の『不完全性定理』って本を読んだことがあったけど、よく分からなかったが、この本は、著者が大妻女子大学で行った講義を元にしたと書いてあったので、簡単かと思ったら、とんでもない、なかなか高度な内容で、最近の女子大は侮れないと思った。反省。

冒頭は基礎編ということで、簡単なのだが、進んでいくにつれ、どんどん高度になっていく。かといって、数式ばかり出るのではなく、読み物としても面白い内容になっている。

特に、最後の情報科学の歴史は、アリストテレスから始まりクヌースまで、触れてあって、短いけど、読み応えがあった。
この人の授業って面白かったんだろうな。受けてみたかった。
