Balls to the Wall〜Metal Heart〜本作はバンドが最も油に乗っていた時期ではないでしょうか。知名度、人気共にバンド結成以来最も高く（特に欧州・日本）、この頃は業界でもかなりビッグな存在になりかけていた時期ではないでしょうか。バンドメンバー（確かウルフ？）のコメントでは、より多くのに人に受け入れてもらおうと、「Accept」を名付けたともありますので、メンバーにしてみれば願ったり叶ったりといった所ではないでしょうか。

さて、この作品、これまで前作同様硬く、そして重い。それでいて実にメロディアスです。スタートから重いリフで飛ばします。T.V.ウォーはいかにもアクセプトらしい、強力のパワーが炸裂するアグレッシブなナンバー。そして、メタル・モンスター（いい曲！)〜ロシアン・ルーレット〜イッツ・ハード〜エイミング・ハイとウドの濁声のシャウトと鋼鉄だけにとどまらないメロディラインが印象的。ヘブン・イズ・ヘルはメンバーの男臭さが渋いコーラスが特徴的。そして、またアクセプトらしい、ジャーマンメタル特有の硬くてメロディアスな曲がアナザー・セカンドから最後まで続きます。

全体的には、前作に構成が似ていますが、完成度としてはRussianの方が高いと思います。この作品の完成度は、当時業界では超一流のIron MaidenやJudas Priest、Ozzy Osbourneの作品に匹敵するものがあると思います。本当の意味でのジャーマンメタルの成功はアクセプトからでしょう。

アクセプトはドイツ出身のバンドで、B級臭さの抜けないバンドでしたが(それでもファストアズアシャークのような名曲もあるのでなめてかかれない!)、ボールズトゥザウォールでチャンスを掴み、前作のメタルハートでその人気を不動のものにしました。そして自信を持って制作され発表されたのがロシアンルーレットなのです。アルバムジャケットにメンバーの写真をつかったのも自信の現れでしょうか? 内容的にも大ヒットした前作の延長線にあるような、一緒に歌いたくなるコーラス満載のアルバムです。むしろバンドとして成長した分こちらのほうが出来は上かもしれません。個人的にはアクセプトの最高傑作はロシアンルーレットだと思いますが、メタルハートを挙げる方を否定するものではありません。なぜならどちらのアルバムも素晴らしいし、どちらのアルバムも私は大好きだからです。もしヘヴィーメタルが大好きならば、メタルハートとロシアンルーレットの2枚は是非聴いてもらいたいし、また聴く価値はおおいにあると確信しています。

派手さはないが、硬派で骨太のヘヴィ・メタルが展開されている。
楽曲の充実とともに、トレンドに迎合しない精神性が、作品に普遍性をもたらしている。
シリアスで、重く、武骨なサウンドに、哀愁まで漂わせるとは心憎い。
また、正統派だけがもつ風格を備えており、完成度は、世評が高い『METAL HEART』を凌駕している。

傑作です。ウルフのギターが素晴らしすぎます。アクセプトのボールトゥからの名作3部作の中では、総合的にこれが一番です。生涯中、屈指の名盤。
