夢と真実の歪みが描かれた白昼夢のような不思議なシュールな世界。
いつもと違う視点で日常を捉えてみたい方におススメなのかもしれない。

この本は、読者によっては「ライナスの毛布」のような効能を得られるものである。「ライナスの毛布」を知らないって？困ったな。昔、「チャーリー・ブラウン」とか「スヌーピー」とかが出てくるマンガがあってさ。登場人物の中にライナスというこどもがいて、いつも毛布を手放さないのさ。その子は毛布があれば安心していられたのだ。誰にとっても毛布は必要だ。守られている感覚がなければ、家から外に出るだけでも恐怖だろう。外界が怖くてたまらない人は無数に存在する。評者も少し前までそうだった。外を見るのが怖い人が、未知の世界に踏み出すときに、何を頼りにすればよいのだろう。それはヴィジョンだ。たとえばこの本に収録された「飲み物はいるかい」で示されるなにかだ。東京周辺に住むあなた。この短編と共に飯田橋駅の改札を出よう。すぐにあなたは知るだろう。一歩前に進むだけで、もう旅は始まると。

彼の最初の短編集。今までも長編ではなくて、連作をまとめたのはあったけど、純粋な短編をまとめたのはこれが最初。

「メロウ」っていう作品は、長編化しても面白いと思う。小学6年生たちが、なぜだかスナイパーと対決する話。

でも一番好きなのは、「飲み物はいるかい」って話。神楽坂から飯田橋までかかっている橋を少女とたどるってだけの話だけど、あの界隈は学生時代になじみがあるので、情景が目に浮かんだ。

ちなみに、この本は古川日出男のサイン入り。あんまりサイン本って興味はないんだけど、彼のサインって不思議な味わいがある。
