　このアルバム、出た当時にすぐ買いました。生々しい荒削りのロック丸出し感に一発でやられました。

アルバムとしては2作目の｢GLOW｣のほうが上なのは確かですが、Reefの最大の持ち味である骨太のグルーヴ感が最も瑞々しく表現されているのは本作ではないでしょうか。彼らのベストナンバーは｢PLACE YOUR HANDS｣よりも断然｢GOOD FEELING｣だと考えております。正直、この頃はベースがかなり下手糞なのですが、そのザラザラした感じも堪らない魅力です。次作からいきなりうまくなるんですよね。

　その後、3作目まで買い続けて離れてしまいましたが、今でもReefと云えばファーストの印象が強いです。あまり人気が無いようなので擁護レビューしてみました。

　90年代ロックシーンの１つの潮流となった、オアシス、ブラク・クロウズ、レニー・クラビッツなどに代表される、シンプルな先祖帰り的ロックンロール。本作はそうした原点回帰型直情サウンドを心情とする英国はグラストンベリー出身の四人組バンドのデビュー作である。ブルース・ロックを基盤にしており、レッド・ツェッペリンやローリング・ストーンズの二大バンドに大きく影響を受けていること、そしてヴォーカリストであるゲイリー・ストリンガーの声質がクリス・ロビンソンに非常に似ていることから、一足先にデビューしていたUSのブラック・クロウズの影がどうしてもちらつくが、強烈なグルーヴ感を伴う演奏力はリーフの方が上。ポール・ウェラーが惚れ込み、またローリング・ストーンズがツアー前座に起用したのも納得だ。途中にインストを挿入するなどアルバムの構成も巧みで、最後まで飽きさせない。この「生~ロウ~」なサウンド、気に入りましたぜ！
