TOTO出版の「ヨーロッパ建築案内」シリーズ第2弾。ドイツ,オランダ,スイスなど,中欧7カ国の建築655作品を紹介するガイドブック。南欧編のシリーズ第1弾と同様,建築ジャーナリスト・編集者の淵上正幸氏が執筆を手がけている。

他の建築ガイドブックと比べると,1作品あたりの写真点数が多く,それぞれに図面が添えられている点もうれしい。たとえばレム・コールハース設計の「エデュカトレエアム」(オランダ)なら,写真8点とアクソメ図,断面図各1点が添えられている。

ユニークなのは,用途やデザインが類似する他の建築家の作品と写真で比較している点。ヨーゼフ・パウル・クライフス設計の「先史・原始博物館」(ドイツ)ならワタリウム美術館,フォン・ゲルカン&マルク設計の「ハンブルク空港ターミナル」(同)なら関西国際空港が引き合いに出される。

解説はていねいだが,プランニングや内外装のデザインにテーマが偏りすぎ,テクニカルな情報がやや乏しいように感じられる。

現代ヨーロッパ建築が好きな人にはお勧めです。
各国(ヨーロッパの中西部)の現代建築が紹介された本です。
中身は、建物ひとつに一枚の写真がつき、簡単な説明文で紹介されています。
説明文には、関連するようなほかの情報も記載されていて、結構読み応えも
あります。

写真をみて興味が沸いたら地図も掲載されているので、実物を見にヨーロッパに出かけてみてはいかがですか？
建物探訪の参考にもなりますよ。

ヨーロッパの現代建築を国別に写真と文章で紹介するシリーズの第２巻で、今作では、ドイツ、オランダら中欧７カ国の建築が紹介されています。第２巻の特徴ですが、レムコールハースがオランダ出身であることに代表されるように先端を行く建築家が多く出ている地域であり、一見しただけでは奇怪に見える建物や建物間をブリッジで結んだり、通路が空中ブリッジになっていたりという物件が多く、写真を眺めているだけで楽しくなる建築物が数多くあります。また、ヨーロッパという地域を反映し、美術館やコンサートホールといった文化的な建物が多いのも特徴でしょうか。また、ベルリン再開発といったミレニアム事業に関する物件も多く、想像した以上に、先端をいった物件が多いのだなあと思わされました。写真もその物件の特徴を捕らえた物になっており、著者の文章と合わせて見ていると、知的刺激を味わえる本です。
