今までの国内盤の訳はよく意味がわからないことがよくあった。
しかし、このモリッシー詩集は元フォーク歌手でブコウスキーの翻訳
もしている中川五郎なので訳が意味不明なところがない。

スミス時代のモリッシーからソロ初期まで、通して読んでみると
モリッシーの価値観、人生観が浮かび上がってくる。

英語の詩を理解するとき、その人物の背景や国の背景を理解しないと難しい。

この本はその手助けになってくれる。

モリッシーの世界を堪能したい方は是非読むべきです。

　スミス及びモリッシーの全曲（モズのソロ数作は除く）の歌詞及び対訳を掲載した、一大書物。とりあえず、スミス・チルドレンな方には必携の本でしょう。個人的には、まずは救いようの無い、青春の痛みを描いた詩の数々に、改めてモリッシーの才能に驚愕しました。スミスとは、天才詩人モリッシーを、天才音楽家のマーが世に解き放ったバンドであったのだ、と感慨にふけりました。

　対訳に関してですが、レコードのレビューについている対訳よりもしっかりしていて、流石だな、と思いました。ただ、「Mama」を「かあちゃん」と訳していたり、「この言葉選びはいただけないなー」と、思った部分が何点かあったので、星をひとつ減らさせていただきました。それ以外は、詩集としてはパーフェクト！モリッシーはイェーツをも凌ぐ大詩人です。
　嘆かわしいことに、最近はスミス及びモリッシーのソロも、次第に国内盤が減ってきているように思います。「輸入盤で買ったけど、歌詞の意味がどうしても知りたい！」という人のニーズにも応えられる詩集だと思います。
