アートワークを見て、ついにベックも老け込んじゃうのかな〜なんて妄想してましたが、
とんでもない。
キャリアの過度期に素晴らしい作品作ってくれました。

確かにより一層地味です。時間も短い。
でも、その枯れた感じがいい方向に進んでる進んでる。
タイトルトラックなんて、オシャレでかつ政治的かつハミングが泣ける音楽かつちょっとラップ、という、
まさに彼にしかできないようないい仕上がり。

童顔な美男子は年取ると残念になる、って定説はベックには当てはまらないですね

まずは３５分足らずの収録時間。
もう少し聴きたいという聴き手の飢餓感を煽るかのような短さは
昔々のアナログ盤時代でも割と短い部類に入るのでは？
しかも１０曲ぴったりの収録曲数にも何がしかの意図を感じる。

どういう経緯でプロデュースを引き受けることになたのか不明だが
今旬な（？）デンジャーマウスをプロデューサーを起用するあたりは
嗅覚が鋭いと言うべきか。
余分なデコレーションをことごとく排除し、結果として完成した本作は
『オディレイ』の呪縛から解き放たれたと確信させられる、００年代のベックを代表する傑作です。

音は骨太で、どこかヴィンテージライクな大人の古着屋さんといった空気感。
まるで無駄なく、とても洗練されているので、モダンな印象さえあるように思います。

トーン自体は暗く地味めなんですが、全編通して動きのある重いビートが肝になっていて、気だるくもダイナミックな感じではないでしょうか。

個人的にいうと最近のBeckの作品の中では一番新鮮に入ってきた作品でもあり、またBeckらしい作品だとも思います。

よくまとまっていて、ある意味お洒落でもあり、逆にいうと不器用な勢いといったものはないですが、かっこいいという点では申し分なくかっこいいと思います。
クールで渋い味わいがありますね。

聴き込んでいきたいです。
