メシアン自らが大きく肩入れしているという点で、この演奏は「お墨付き」の名演として確固たる地位を築いている。作曲者はこの演奏のために改訂版を用意し、ソロは両ロリオでもろに正統派。演奏はほんとうに繊細で美しいのだが、この演奏が、本当にこの曲の命を表現しているかというと、少々疑問である。
完成度の高い名演だが、この演奏は「愛」というこの曲の主題を、ドロドロしたエロスではなく、むしろ「カトリック的」に表現している。作曲者は敬虔なカトリックであるが、果たしてそれがこの曲のすべてなのかどうか？指揮者はともかくとして、メシアンもイヴォンヌもある意味で老境にあるのだから。往年のメシアンを作曲に駆り立てたのは、強烈なエロスだった可能性もあろう。
この曲はもっと妖しげに演奏されてもよいと思う。サロネンやシャイーなどの演奏がもつ若々しい激情や溢れんばかりの官能が、この曲の誤解であるとは言えないだろう。作曲者がテコいれしたからといって、それが決定版であるとは限らないのだ。とはいえ、この演奏がある方向性でのひとつの完成形であることはたしかだろう。

色彩の極みのような作品が多く、あまり構成を意図しないような（フランス的な）管弦作品を多く残したメシアンからすれば
珍しく循環動機やらドイツ的なことをちょっとやってるこの作品は「交響曲」だったんでしょうね。

まっ、その感覚には到底ついていけないですが…よい曲です。
メシアンの中ではロマンティスズムがある方でとても親しみやすい作品だと思います。

このCDについてですがこの録音は音がかなり鮮明な方であると思います。
たくさんの楽器が鳴ってる時でもVn.の上に重なってるFl.なんかがちゃんと聞こえました。
このCDで気付いた楽器の重ね結構多かったです。
巨大な編成の極めて豊かな音色を上手いこと円盤に収めてあると少し感動しました。

やっぱり大きな編成の音楽はできるだけ楽器一つ一つの音が聞き取れると嬉しいですね♪

だと思います。ですが、オンドマルトノ、D-trumpet炸裂、みたいな、キンキンギラギラ系の音色が好きな人にはちょっと物足りないかもしれません（私はいささか欲求不満）。ですが、第6楽章など、かなり丁寧な音楽作りをしているな、という印象を受けました。フランスのいぶし銀的演奏とでも表現しましょうか。この曲を初めて聴かれる方にはサロネンとともに「まぁお奨め」です。

というわけで４星。
