ムーミン一家のいないムーミン谷に、一家を訪ねてさまざまな仲間たちが集まってくる。わがままだったり、弱虫だったり、ひどく強烈な性格の彼等が、主のいない家で、ぶつかりあったり爆発したりひきこもったりしながら、少しずつそれぞれの居場所を見い出していく。さみしい十一月の風景と、いないはずのムーミン一家の存在感が、彼等の演じる人間臭いドタバタ劇の背後から忽然と立ち上がってくる、この奥行きの深いスケール感が本書の醍醐味。それにしても、そこにいないことによって彼等どうしを直接ぶつけあわせ、それぞれの殻を破らせてしまうムーミン一家とはいったい何者なのか？そも存在するとは、不在であるとはどういうことなのか！？私自身という存在を振り返らずにはいられなくなる、読後に尾を引く一冊。人間関係の只中に身をおくすべての人にお薦めします。

　ムーミンシリーズの中でも異色作だ。何と言ってもムーミン達が出てこないという作品だからである。これは実験作と言っても良いと思う。

　ムーミンシリーズの脇役たちが　それぞれ何かを求めてムーミン谷にやってくる。しかし彼らが会いたいムーミン一家は　そこには居ない。戸惑いながらも　彼らはムーミン谷で一時期一緒に住むという話だ。

　季節が１１月である。北欧の冷え冷えとした晩秋の風景が　登場人物たちの横でさりげなく物語りを彩る。話は静かに進行する。そう　まるで小津映画のような趣すらあると思う。

　こう考えると　これは子供向けの童話では納まらないものを含んだ作品なのだと思う。他のムーミンシリーズにはちょっと見られない深みと暗さが　実は凄く魅力的だ。

　もう一度読もうと思ったところだ。

ヤンソンさんはムーミンパパに憧れています。
フィリフィヨンカは、ムーミンママのようになろうとします。
ちびのホムサは、ムーミンママのような存在を恋しく思っています。
気難しいけれど、憎めない年寄りのおじいさん。ミムラ姉さん。
旅に出たのに戻ってきてしまったスナフキン。
この人たちは、皆ムーミン一家を訪ねてムーミン谷までやってきました。
けれども、ムーミン一家の人々は誰もいません。仕方なく六人は暫く一緒に暮らすことになったのです。始めは何度も衝突をします。誰もが複雑な心と、孤独を抱えているのです。
皆の唯一の心の拠り所がムーミン一家なのでしょう。

怒ったり、悲しんだりしないムーミン一家という理想像。でも本当は、ムーミンママだって、一人寂しく森を彷徨うことだってあるんです。誰も、ムーミン一家のようになる必要はありません。「自分自身に忠実であることが一番大切」ということに少しずつ気付いていきます。

パーティを開き、皆の心が解け合って一つになり、そして皆、それぞれの居場所へ帰っていきます。ちびのホムサだけが、一家の到着を今か今かと待ち望んでいます。

大人のためのお話です。十一月と言うくすんだ冷たい季節に、心にほっと明かりのさす物語。さすが、ヤンソンさんです。
