帯のコピーは「バロットはカードに、ウフコックは銃に賭けた」。このコピーに嘘はない。

三分冊構成の三冊目のこの本の前半はカジノの最高額チップに隠された機密情報を盗み出すために、ブラックジャックの勝負を挑む話なのだが、これがものすごい。運だけでなく、知識、計算、五感、文字通り全身全霊を持って行われるディ-ラーとの駆け引き、というよりカードを武器とした戦い。もちろんイカサマだってあり。食うか食われるかの戦いの中ではイカサマは見破れないほうが悪い（もっとも大詰めの頃になるとイカサマなんか入る余地がなくなってしまっているが）。はっきり言ってこのカードの戦いに匹敵するほどの戦いの物語が他にどれほどあったか。

ただ残念なのが、前半のカードでの戦いの印象が強烈過ぎて後半の宿敵との決着が印象薄くなってしまったこと。カードの戦いを通じでバロットが大きく成長したのに対し、宿敵のボイルドは物語を通じて成長が無かったことがこういう結果になってしまったのだろう。ボイルドは人として成長することを止めた人間、いわば生ける死人みたいなものだったから生者が死者に負けるはずもなかった。物語の基本構造上止むを得なかったかもしれない。
その部分を差し引きしてもバロットの戦いは読む価値があると思った。

３巻目の３巻。ブラックジャックでの最強のディーラーとの対決、そして「殺戮マシーン」の殺し屋と、武器や超能力を駆使しての対決で、幕を閉じます。主人公の少女は最後まで生き残るのか、そして少女が最後に見るものは・・？３巻目は、１巻目と２巻目の面白さが、あわさったような印象です。久々、早く最後が知りたいような、終わって欲しくないような本でした。続きが読みたいような、最後の余情に浸っていたいようなぁ。あー、もう１回読もうー。

　シリーズ全3巻の最終巻。迂闊にも最終巻を最初に手に取ってしまった。よってシリーズを通読するのとはきっと違った読後感となっている。主人公の少女娼婦バロットが、事件屋にして変幻自在のロボット、ウフコックの力を借りながら、ディーラー達とのブラックジャック勝負に挑む。200ページを優に超えるブラックジャックのシーンは息つく間もなくグイグイ読ませる。この筆力には脱帽。ブラックジャックは決してセオリーやテクニックを身につければ勝てるものではない。「問題はカードではなくバロット自身」なのだ。この部分はブラックジャックを通した少女の成長物語として読むことができる。最終巻から読んでしまったので、このブラックジャック・バトルがとにかく圧巻で、その後に続くクライマックス・シーンが付け足しのように感じられてしまった。
